    c5180 OS?

Does the c5180 have an operating system? If so, what is the name of it (NT,Linux etc)? My first thought was "no", only the rip's have an OS but I want to make sure.
I have a customer that is trying to get the machine approved for top secret copying and that is one of the questions they are asking me.
The machine does not have the optional security kit or an imagepass/fiery.

Not sure what OS they have, but with the optional security kit it passes government standards for security regardless the copiers OS. I'm sure there are some in the pentagon (last I knew an account of CBS) that have the optional security kit and they don't know or care what OS is on the copier. My guess is some variety of DOS or Unix, but the question of security is more about images being stored in volatile/non-volatile memory. Unfortunately Canon's do use the HDD for copying when the memory gets full, but this is why they made the security kit. It totally wipes all that info clean. Ricoh's can run without a HDD and that's why a lot of our Gov't accounts liked them over Canon (If they only knew what a POS Ricoh's are compared with Canon though). As long as they add the optional kit which wipes image data off the HDD and as the previous post pointed out encrypts stored data they should be fine.
Also, I heard some government accounts (NSA) had the HDD pulled out of the old machine being traded in so they could wipe off the data or shred the HDD.

    Thanks for the replies.
Most of the security items listed in the brochure are optional and not installed on this specific machine. I already installed the HDD in a removeable case mounted on the back of the machine so the customer can swap it out (with another identical HDD they keep in a safe) so they can do "top secret" copy jobs. That was 2 years ago when I installed the machine (used). Now they are finally getting around to it being "certified" so they have a bunch of security questions relating to the machine. Most of them I had answered already, I was just not sure about weather it had an "operating system" or not.

Also, would it be difficult for me (independant tech) to install the optional security kit if they decided they needed it? I can do firmware upgrades and get Canon parts but I've never installed a security kit before.
