Canon IR 1023n adding a fax

I have a 1023n I want to add fax to. I have a 1023if that was dropped, Can I use the fax out of the IF in the N machine and just change the necessary parts?
    Thanks

There is no fax option in the service guide, and only the iF model has fax in it. I do not know if the parts can simply be moved from the N to the iF model. You are free to try anything you want, but I don't know what your results will be.

well i swapped the parts and it was relatively easy, All the buttons work, the fax button lights up but no dial tone, it never dials. Firmware maybe?

There is no different system software for the 3 models, they all use the same version... it would not hurt to try, maybe in the loading it would "discover" the fax parts, like I mentioned earlier, I have no way to predict the outcome here, you are the one pioneering this!

If the DDR swap does not resolve it, try reflashing the copier with the latest software. Keep us posted...
