Sounds like toner not being added to the drum/dev units in the amounts needed to give proper ratio of toner to developer. Check the motor and the gears on the cartridge drive. You can replace the motor or the gears (or even the whole drive assy if you want to be lazy). The only sad part is that you may or may not need to replace the drum units also to get rid of this - even though the real problem started with the cartridge drive.

Try to re-seat all the connections and DIMMs on the Main Controller./ Also u can clean edge of contacts on DIMMS w/ some alcohol

when was the last time u replaced the drums ??

Check in service mode, * 2 & 8 *, under Copier > display > Dens. Look at the value for each individual color. The normal value would be between zero and one. If you have a color with a value around four or five you have an issue with the toner/starter concentration level for that color DRUM.

Replace that Drum & Toner in issue/ if it returns u may have to
replace the Toner Cartridge Drive Assembly, for that color FG6-8999-000

Teckats suggestion to check the values in service mode under density is good advice. Follow it. But you will probably still end up with the cartridge drive as the issue. Those values in service mode may help you to save money and not replace all of the drum units -just the ones with values out of range. Also those values will direct you to the cartridge drive assy that is at issue. I neglected to mention there are 4 of them. Good advice Teckat-thanks.
Note: if you replace just the drums the machine will be fine and the problem is fixed - but only for a time---then the problem will reocccur because you really have an issue with toner supply / starter ratio. The new drums have the proper ratio - which is why the problem fixes itself temporarily. Save yourself from having to return later & do this repair twice. Address the cause.
