I suggest you use a parallel cable, IEEE1284, to perform this procedure. I did not use crossover cables to talk to this older copier. We also have the use of the Nethawk USB to parallel adapter cable to use on this. If you do not have a parallel port on your laptop, you could borrow one that does or use a regular PC for the procedure.

First of all, you can't format the HDD using a LAN cable. That model doesn't support fixed IP mode when switching on and holding 2 & 8. You will need a parallel cable to format the drive and install the system software. Heck, even with a LAN cable and entering download mode through service mode I'm pretty sure it won't let you format the drive.

Second, "register firmware" is a different procedure from "connect" which downloads the firmware to the ir3300. Which one were you doing?

And I'll assume the E147 was from the SST since I didn't see it in the 3300 manual. I'll have to dig out my SST manual to look that one up, but if you were using a LAN cable instead of a parallel, that would give you a code when trying to connect. If you were registering firmware I have no clue why you'd get a code.

EDIT: I see MrFixit was quicker on the draw

What version of SST are you using?

As many noted, use a parallel cable, or a usb parallel.

Also are you selecting the the right interface selection, (Bi-centronics) in the SST.

And if you using a usb parallel cable then select the interface, usb parallel in the SST.

To make this selection, its the small box at the top in the SST. I believe its orange.

Check this out TCP/IP in canon ir3300. I think you can use the ethernet if the firmware is new enough. But that might not help you.

    Peace.
