Imagerunner 5070 finishing options grayed out

I am trying to make a booklet from acrobat on a pc. No matter what settings I have tried a lot of the finishing options are grayed out (staples etc.) i have checked the properties of the printer and it is set up properly with the finisher.

    Any help would be appreciated!

If you are using a PCL/PS driver, go to printers window, right click on the IR 5070 icon, choose PROPERTIES, choose DEVICE SETTINGS tab, click GET DEVICE STATUS button. If you get a message that says COULD NOT GET DEVICE STATUS, than turn off your firewall and check that your printer is connected and have latest driver.

If you are using a PS via a Fiery driver (Canon ImageRunner 5070-ImagePass B1 V1.0), right click on the IR 5070 icon, choose PROPERTIES, choose CONFIGURATION tab, click UPDATE button.

In both cases you should see the picture of the printer change in the tab of the driver update to reflect the updated Finishing accessories. Good luck.
The glass maybe half full, but less is more...

Thanks for the tip. I clicked on the get device status button before the initial post not really knowing what it did but it came up with a message got device status.

The finisher on the 5070 is a T2 saddle finisher. I am not using the Fiery driver so I guess it is the
PCL/PS driver. I can get it to print the booklet but not staple. I am checking the saddle stitch box and I see the little red staples appear but it does not staple the booklet everything else in the finisher tab is grayed out.

I also have an older imagerunner 600 with a D2 finisher. I could use it but it is doing the same thing. The print driver for this machine is almost identical to the 5070.

I have checked the staples in both machines that there is not any jammed staples and followed the directions for replacing the staple cartridges.

I have never used this function on either machine and these machines were not new. Normally I am printing a very small community newspaper which is not stapled. but...

I am producing a quantity of calendars and really need this to work.

Could it be possible that this function has been disabled in some way.

Again, I would be grateful for any help.

Could be operating in limited fuctions mode. Go into additional functions, common settings, limited function mode - if it is enabled - turn it off then reboot.

It's been a while since I've worked on Canon...

But I would take a look at the driver version level, and if there is an older or newer version driver to use. You may also try changing the driver emulation (PostScript versus Printer Control Language, or vice versa). If you're using PostScript emulation look for the Advanced button, then "Print As Image" checkbox. That can solve a lot of strange problems.

I really don't see this as a hardware issue. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    Why don't you try using a UFRII driver v2.70 Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : imageRUNNER 5070

When setting up printers Canon has made it very easy.

I like to use the .EXE. Sets it up real well.

Does this happen when you do it from machine, rather the PC.

If it is in limited functions mode, remember there may be two pages. Also make sure your powering up sequence is right.

    Thanks for all the help.

This is what I have tried.

    Limited functions is off.

I downloaded and installed the UFR11 driver v2.70. Printed a lovely booklet, folded but no staples. (I did select saddle stitch)

I played around with the touch screen on the machine and copied a group of 8 1/2 x 11 pages and stapled them in the corner. So the stapler works.

I tried to copy and make a booklet on the machine following the directions in the manual. I don't have alot of experience doing this because I mainly use this machine as a printer. Anyway, again made a booklet but alas no staples. Lots of duplicated settings on the touch screen. I could have not set something right.

Any ideas left or should I go buy a bbbbiiiiggg stapler and do them by hand?

If it does not saddle stitch manually from the machine.

Chances are the two staple units are shot. They do go bad after being used so much.

Here's the Part# FL2-0846-000- Staple units. Your gonna two.

You can exhaust your options first before buy two staple units.

It seems like everything esle checks fine.

One more or two things that I would like to clarified.

When stapling at corners, that's a whole different stapling unit and function.

That's not the saddle stitching stapling unit.

Two, you must use 11x17 or LGL and LTR-R when saddle stitching.

    The machine will not stitch 8 1/2 x 11.

The machine's saddle stitching function will be greyed out.

    Design feature!
