    Although there are cheaper alternatives available I think the iRC1021i is also worth a mention - I am not going to say what sort of mention - just a mention!

    On a more serious note the iRC4580 / CLC4040 range are great for quality and ease of maintenance but as people have said the cost of the fuser and other parts, here we get charged approx £900 for the fuser - not good!

    I wouldn't sell an iRC1021 to anyone. Double sided jobs just don't work with it!

    There's no such thing as perfect copier. Keep that in mind.

    The 4080/5180 -series is a good office colour series (if you put it on contract).

    Unless u are a Large or Major Service Center it does not pay to include that Fixin Unit in a contract , especially if the customers volume is more than 8/10.000 mo. You also need to check what they are using printer for (Card Stock, Glossy Stock, Heavy Two-Sided Use) need to do your homework when offering contracts

    All of our service contracts include the fixing unit. I'm not the one who makes those contracts; it's the salesman's problem. And he's aware about the price of the unit.

    Yes, and no.

    The salesman may make the sale, but the sales department does not have to spring for the cost of the fusers,,, the service department does. The salesman needs to be in concert with the service manager to determine the proper contract cost, that reflects the true cost of servicing these copiers...

    many times customers lie about usage & volume on those 5180 series/ most know about the fixin issue/ through word of mouth in the industry/ sales people are jerks, they only care about their bottom line.

    we have had salespeople fired & commissions revoked for mishandling contracts on that series

    If u can pay for it and time is no issue, C1 is highest quality.

    Otherwise i prefer the CLC3200(IR C3200-C1), it's reliable, ease to maintain workhorse with nice, punchy image on quality paper. 100gr Color copy paper is the minimum, but 250 is great also. Just keep using paper with smooth services, but not glossy or coated stuff. Also use the manual feed and lower left delivery tray. And most important, don;t let office personel use this machine, it's just to complicated removing a stuck paper for them noobs.

    It's follow up, CLC4040(IRC4080-H1) is less sturdy, it's belt fixing has problems with heavier paper (keep adjusting FX-SPD and FXLOOP on them because the arching before fixing inlet). Also high maintenance cost of the fixing, we can repair a 3200 fixing with new rollers and bearings for just a tenth of the price of a FM2-3779 fixing. I don't like the quality, although is has little higher resolution, it just can't lay the toner as solid and punchy as the 3200. Als the amount of wax in toner gives the prints to much gloss and rought texture on colored images.

    These machines are both replaced by the Advance C5045 and C5051. These machines have pro's and con's.

    pros: Much less maintenance, easy the use and operate, like a real office copier should be. High resolution prints, especially nice on glossy paper. Printed photo's i took home were stolen by family because the photo-like quality. Great for office people.

    cons: Colors not accurate!! Out of the box print colors are way off compared copy colors. U can manually adjust using service mode or user settings or by using CT100 tool. Still internal PS controller is still way to dark on every print. Colors get better using a Imagepass B1 rip, but machine is totally not working in the 2-5% shading area en 10% looks like 20%. CMY gray always has a tint. Pantone chart one or two shades off when using a calibrated Pantone flipper for CMYK uncoated machines. DTP'rs can be anoyed by this.

    Heavy paper also has streaks of the two white rollers in delivery unit, not so nice fixing because of surf fixing. No straight paperpath also.

    the iR 3200 w/C1-C2,does not come close to Color reproduction of an iR 5185 series w/H1 or Color Pass GX200 attached. 5180 Series is a Business Color Printer/ u can not compare it to a CLC5100 or CLC4000 - that is what I tell my customers up front

    also the paper u state as a minimum gms for 3200 is wrong/ minimum paper is>17 to 28 lb (64>105gms)
    Canon recommends 28lb for great quality & performance

    Fixing is an issue on 5180 series, but if your Firmware updates are in and you maintain an inspection on that fix unit every 75,000 prints, u spot issues before they happen.

    as far as that ADVANCED series , bottom line is u need training on it
    ,
    next is, only time will tell on it's issues, there are a lot of tech pubs already on the Color end of the ADVANCED series

    CT100 is only used without a reader attached. Canon has never claimed it replicates Pantone.

    If the Salesperson is truthful & explains what the machine is capable of doing, customers expectations will be mee

    Bottom line is it depends on the stock that you want to run. Period. All the Canon color print engines mention are excellent as noted,but if you want to run stock above 253 g/sm RELIABLY and SUPPORTED by Canon then they have the products...finally!!!IRCAdvanced series.Used to be basically V7000 types and 110Imagepreses were only ones supported for heavier media.

    Teckat i am trained on IR Advanced and also read all the tech pubs on it about quality. Nobody gave me decent answer, maybe it tells something about our level of training.

    I installed several IRC2380 with PS kit in professional designing environments, i understand they spend money on 50 Powermacs with 22" screens and too cheap for a decent IPC1 with Eyeone calibrator. But in most cases the 2380 wasn;t that far off the pantone chart.

    I also had a customer (repro) to run production on a CLC3200 and IRC3220 next to eachother, they compared every print on the CLC and IRC and used the IRC of it wasn't too much off. Bottom line is they could do 80% of their work on he IRC, because there wasn;t much differenance in color.

    I understand the Advance C5xxx is an office color machine, but i got a feeling they didn't calibrate in factory to give a reason to buy a imagepass.
