    Canon IR 4570 w/ Q3 finisher has E540 sub code 8003

    Hi,

I'm working on a Canon IR 4570 w/ Q3 finisher that has a E540 sub code 8003 problem. I tried to reset, didn't work. Tray sensors changes states in I/O mode. If I turn on Dip sw 1 and 4 and power on and press push sw 3, both trays move. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

I believe that there is a microswitch in the center of tray 1...upper limit switch basically. If it is actuated no 24vdc and tray motors wont run. Not present on tray 2. Actuator probably bent or something stuck in there

    Thanks for all the suggestions:

1] I have swapped tray 1's motor and sensor PCB w/ tray 2's: no change.
2] The flag is not stuck or broken and causes it's sensor to changes states in I/O mode with manual tray movement.
3] The microswitch changes states in I/O mode.

I cleared the error history and did COPIER > FUNCTION > CLEAR > ERR > OK and then cycled power. The machine comes up with no errors in history, but still says that the finisher doesn't function. Is there a reset that I don't know about? When powering up the finisher has a paper transport motor spin, the stapler doesn't go home and the trays don't move. The manuals I have for this machine might be old. When I go into I/O mode the sorter addresses [P???] don't always match what I move. Is this normal? Also stacker address P003 bit 3, 4 or 5 changes states on it's on at a short but random interval. Is this normal?

    Thanks

What is the exact message on control panel ??
u stated that it says "finisher doesn't function"

do u see Limited Function displayed ?

    CHECK THIS SETTING ALSO>>
Service Mode Copier / Sorter / Option and check the Setting MD-SPRTN is set to "0" which is normal mode. If set to "1" the functions of the Finisher are limited.

If the message "Finisher Cannot Be Used" is displayed on the bottom of the control panel and the Finisher Functions are unavailable for use.

The message "Finisher Cannot be Used" appears after the finisher experiences an error and the "Limit Functions" option is selected on the display. By selecting Limit Functions, the machine will operate properly except for the use of the Finisher. After the malfunction or error code with the Finisher has been resolved, you must reset the "Limited Functions" option.
To do this, go into Additional Functions>Common Settings>Limited Functions Mode and select "OFF".

    Thanks for all the help.
It was in limited function mode. My bad, when a Ricoh tech works on Canon, odd stuff happens. Anyway, I turned off limited function mode and the finisher came up and worked fine. I punched and stapled in all possible locations without a problem. So all is good again.

    Thanks
