Would the CIS cause the light copies from the feeder if there were a gap between the paper and the scaner glass?

i believe so/ had that issue on the iR3380
in ADF mode: scan / contact image sensor is stationary

DF DOCS DO NOT FEED DOWN TO GLASS/
is that the same op with D340

I'm not sure if I understand what you are asking.

In the Canon D340, when using ADF, the scanner bar positions itself under the ADF, remains stationary, and the doc feeder moves paper across the small DF glass to scan the paper.

So the scanner stays still and the paper is fed across the scanner. When using platen mode, the paper stays still and the scanner moves.

    That's what i am saying/ it's called stream reading in 3380
DF feed docs. do not go on Copy Glass

that small platen glass position gap was the issue i had on 3380

    Good to hear.

I noticed the paper is fed between the ADF Scan glass and a spring loaded rounded metal plate, my guess is that the springs may have lost their tension and are not pressing the paper down to the scan glass all the way.

What did you do to fix your issue?
