You need SST and firmware for this kind preparation. Backing up software will not save you.

SST is used to load fresh software from your laptop to the copier, it does not "back up" software from the copier to the laptop. Some people speak of cloning hard drives, but that is not a practice that I endorse. It would be better to locate the System Software for your model.

    There is 2 options:
    1.The correct way = SST & Firmware
2.The easiest way = Clone the virgin/original/working HDD.....but Beware!!! in some country you are not allowed to do so due to security reasons.

If your hard drive is ok - then why back it up. When it fails someday it's a simple matter to have a new one installed by a Canon tech and loaded with the most recent version of the system software. Are you having problems right now that you think are related to the hard drive? Is that the reason for your inquiry?

Thank's for the replies. Now I've understood, That SST is used to load fresh software from laptop to the copier, it does not "back up" software from the copier to the laptop (as Mr. mrfixit51 said).
