    Canon ir C3200 drum error

    Here is my issue.

I started out with an error: E000020 04b0

I determined that my black drum was nearing the end of its life so I replaced it.

    Now I am getting: E000020 0434

Note: I also replaced the toner with the drum so they are both new.

I'm figuring that there is a dirty sensor or something, can anyone shed any light on what this means specifically?

    Thanks!

    -Steve

E020-0434 can be displayed when the sample image fails to be drawn in ATR control for black.

Make sure the service cover inside the front door of the machine is installed and that the actuator for the SALT/Pattern Reader cover is not broken. When a new drum(s) is installed in the C3200 the machine immediately tries to make image pattern, density, and atr corrections, if the service cover is not installed or is broken an E020 may occur.

There is a possibility that the ITB is not pressurized due to a breakage of the lock lever.

A bad laser can cause this error as well.

If you carry in this machine which has been placed in cold environment, condensation occurs because of the temperature difference between the body and the room.
Condensation on the surface of the drum prevents toner from attaching to the drum, which causes the E020-0x34.

These are some cases in the field. Usually I just reboot the machine and it goes away.

this is what SCREWTAPE is talking about for the cover

    E020_3.jpg

also check these tabs on Drum below pic
    E020_5.jpg
tabs open the toner hopper when the drum unit is slid in, and if they are broken, toner will not be fed into the drum unit.

OK, here is where I am at, I checked all spots above and all seemed ok. So I decided to go for a full clean and pretty much took apart and cleaned everything I could think of. I put it all back together and I thought I had fixed the problem, the error code went away and it ran smoothly.

Now, when I run color sheets my colors are out of sync, they are off big time by about a half an inch. I have read about many fixes for this problem, but based on my original problem what would you say I need to try first.

Color displacement occurs in sub scanning direction
    scan.JPG

    1. Output a test print in service mode > COPIER > Test > PG > TYPE > 6 (Grid) (to identify whether the symptom is attributed to the scanner or the printer).
If the symptom cannot be seen in the test print, go to Step 2. In other cases, go to Step 3.
    2. Check to see if the values for the following service modes are same as those indicated in the service label; if they are different, input the values in the service label
(In case the CCD unit is replaced, input the values in the label affixed on the new CCD unit), and then make copies.
    - Service mode > COPIER > ADJUST > CCD > CCDU-RG (input of correction value for CCD-dependent RG color displacement in the sub scanning direction)

    - Service mode > COPIER > ADJUST > CCD > CCDU-GB (input of correction value for CCD-dependent GB color displacement in the sub scanning direction)

    3. Turn the main power switch OFF/ON, and then check to see the output images. (Auto registration adjustment of the image stabilization control is executed.)
    4. Slide out the manual feed pickup unit, and then remove the right center cover.
    5. Set the manual feed pickup unit and turn the main power switch ON; then check to see if a patch image is formed on the ITB belt correctly.
    6. If the patch image is not formed correctly, interchange the affected laser scanner unit with the unit for another color, and check to see the patch image
formed on the ITB as in the same manner as Step 5; if the patch image is not formed correctly, replace the laser unit.
    7. Output P-PRINT printouts in service mode –
    > COPIER > Function > MISC-P > P-PRINT.
    8. Service mode > COPIER > Function > CLEAR > select CD-CON > press OK to clear the data on DC controller > input values indicated in the P-PRINT
Printouts output in Step 7 if needed > turn the main power switch OFF and ON > check the output images.
    9. Service mode > COPIER > Function > CLEAR > select MN-CON > press OK to clear the data on the main controller > input values indicated in the P-PRINT
Printouts generated in Step 7 if needed > turn the main power switch OFF and then ON > check the output images.

    too add on previous ideas>>

    [Service Mode]
    • Check to see if the various CCD adjustment values are as indicated on the service label.
    (COPIER>ADJUST>CCD>all items)

    • Check to see if the machine executes registration adjustment.
    (COPIER>ADJUST>FEED-ADJ>REGIST/ADJ-REFE)

    • Check to see if the machine correctly detects the internal temperature/humidity.
    (COPIER>DISPLAY>ANALOG>TEMP/ABS-HUM)

    • Check to see if the image read position is correctly adjusted.
    (COPIER>ADJUST>ADJ-XY>ADJ-X/ADJ-Y/ADJ-Z)

    • Check to see if the paper reference value data is correct.
    (COPIER>FUNCTION>CST-ADJ)

    • Check to see that the value of ADJUST/OPTION is as indicated on the service label.
    • Check to see if ‘error clear’ has been initialized.
    (COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>ERR)

I haven't had a chance to get real in depth on things yet, but here is a few things I noticed today while trying a few. When I tried to do a type 6 printout I was getting nothing but jams, just befor the fuser right at the belt. I was at a loss for a bit and thought maybe the cleaning blade was the issue so I removed it and tried to run a few copies without it and it ran fine, no jams and even the registration was good. I put the cleaning blade back in and I didn't get a jam but the registration was off again. I borrowed my neighbors cleaning blade from his machine and tried it with the same results. I did do manage to get the type 6 print done and it was way off so it has to be a printer issue and not a scanner.

Blade causes ITB to slip. Disassemble ITB assembly, clean all drive rolls real good, clean inside of belt with alcohol. Re-install,power off/on. Make sure the pattern reader is positioned properly
