    IR 1023 Error Code E197

I have a Canon IR 1023 that randomly puts up an E197 error code. Has anyone seen this before and what was the solution ? Thanks, Murphy

    The code means:
E197 0000 Printer engine communication error
Erroneous communication between the DC controller PCB and
    image processor PCB was detected.
    - Check the connectors of the DC controller PCB and image
    processor PCB.

    - Replace the DC controller PCB for normal connection.
    - Replace the image processor PCB.

What I've seen is that code comes up occasionally and can be reset by turning the copier off and on again. Bad input power caused this. Check the power from the outlet and also check to see if you have a good ground. If your problem ends up being power.....call an electrician or plug it into another outlet that tests ok - do this before a board gets damaged and you end up with a code that cannot be reset and have to replace one or both of the boards mentioned above.

    hi,

    There were two similar cases.

    1. It was guilty image proc.

    2. The power unit was guilty!!

    3. It is useful to check up flat cable between DC - MN

    Good luck

I went out today & replaced the DC Controller, and that seems to have taken care of the E197 error. Murphy

could have just been a connector issue/ always re-check/double check connectors before replacing PCB's
