    Canon iR2018 ADF reading glass

    Hi Guys,
I need some advice with Canon iR2018 with DADF-P2 installed, after 17k copies, almost all thru ADF, the machine start display message to clean copy glass, even when the glass is perfectly clean. I think the problem is with the ADF reading glass, which seems clean but little scratched and my guess is that it is caused by the platen roller. Is this normal behaviour, that the ADF reafing glass must be replaced after this amount of copies? or do I have something wrong installed? Thanks for advice.

Thanks for fast reply, I will replace it ofcourse, but I wanna know if this is normal, that this glass get scratched after 15-20k copies using ADF? I think its caused by the plate roller, as it rub the glass while paper goes thru, right? Or is this symptom of some another problem?

Crappy paper [recylced] will put small scratches on reading glass= "clean glass message"

reminder- do not turn off in service mode/

There is no such paper used, using normal 80g copy white paper, I will change the glass and will see how long it will stand. If it will be another 15-20k copies, than its not a problem to change it again, hope it will not be sooner. Thanks for reply.

just because they are running 80g white copy paper in the trays doesn't mean that is what they are using for originals when making copies. And if they are running anything that is wax based through the DADF you get all kind of scratches on the glass. We do not cover glass replacement in our contracts because of the issues with the customers originals causing damage.

get a microscope and look at paper/ it is all rough surface/ no matter what the package says

unless u know what type of all the original paper u use in the doc feeder comes from, I am telling u that is how that Read glass becomes scratched/

grab a bunch of paper dust and keep rubbing and squeezing it between your fingers for a while - you will notice how rough it becomes/ may even develop paper cut

I know all about paper / went to a training school about paper a while ago/
