I have a Canon IR5000 and can not print via the LPT port is also impossible to change the menu language. What do I need to activate English language menus and ability to print via LPT port and through the network. I have a network card. Boot ROM is FG3-2158 Ver. 9.28c.

1. Go to Service Mode, *, 2 and 8, *.
2. Select Copier.
3. Select Option.
4. Select Body.
5. Press the right arrow and scroll to the 3rd screen.
6. Select RMT-LANG. For English, it should read en.
7. To change the language, hit the +/- sign until you find the desired language.
8. Select OK.
9. Then power cycle the machine.

COPIER>OPTION>CONFIG
Use it to select multiple pieces of firmware retained on the hard disk so as to make appropriate settings: country, language, model, paper size series.
Settings XX-YY-ZZ-AA-XX: country (JP), YY: language (ja), ZZ (00); model,
AA (00): paper size series; display will be in the following sequence and the parentheses indicate default settings:

COPIER>DISPLAY>USER>LANGUAGE.
Using the Mode
1) Select CONFIG.
2) Select an item (to highlight), and press the +/- key to scan through the items.
3) When the appropriate setting has appeared for each item, press the OK key.

COPIER>OPTION>RMT-LANG
Use it to switch the language for remote UI driven over the WEB.
Settings Use it to select a language code (ja, en, etc.) to identify the site; expressed
as in service mode

COPIER>DISPLAY>USER>LANGUAGE
Using the Mode
1) Select RMT-LANG.
2) Each press on the +/- key brings up a different language code.
3) When the desired language code has appeared, press the OK key.

COPIER>DISPLAY<USER>LANGUAGE
Indicates the language/paper size configuration used.
Display <LANGUAGE xx.yy.zz.aa>
xx (2 higher-order digits): country code
yy (2 lower-order digits) : language code
zz : destination code (00: CANON, 01: OEM)
aa : paper size configuration code (00: AB, 01:Inch, 02: A, 03: all sizes

The printing issue is two fold I believe. First, in order to print, you need a "N" network bootrom, plus network version System Software loaded, and your 9.28c is a copier only bootrom. Second, in order to print through the parallel port, it's use must be enabled under the printer or network setup...
