Imagerunner1600 printer board

Computer guy here, not a copier guy......

Considering hooking up my plain jane Imagerunner 1600 to a PC.....

I see the network board iN-E5 (7445A001AA) can be had considerably cheaper than the printer board N1 (7444A001AA).... is there a salvage place for these things somewhere?

If I buy just the network card, can I print over TCP/IP with windows (drivers are available) or do I HAVE to have the printer board?

keep in mind you get what you pay for. I would describe this machine as light duty and the iN-E5 print board as basic.
attached are the specs for the two print options.

Thanks, just looking for emergency backup to another printer - worst case scenario probably 200 pages a year

what type of documents are you going to be printing to it?

ledger size autocad drawings....

I don't iN-E5 print board will support the autocad prints. I am pretty know that the PCL print drivers can handle autocad which the N1 print board supports. I would hate for you to buy the cheaper one and then find out it will not work with what you are printing. The iN-E5 has no HDD and a very small amount of RAM for printing those files and could possibly crash the poor thing.

well, if i do it I guess I was going to splurge and get the printer board, was hoping for someone with a junk one sitting around
