Yep, Canon likes to make money selling HDD's. CanRam is just a model name I think because I've put CanRam HDD's in Ricoh's and Sharp's. What you're paying for is the ability for SST to recognize the HDD to load firmware.
SEND IT BACK,
any of these old refurbished/some new if lucky 40g HDD's u find online will work in your model
