Paper jam error with no paper jam - where do I look?

My IR 550 prints five to ten copies before it quits and tells me the paper is jammed in the folder. I am printing booklets (11 x 17 into 81/2 x 11).

I open up the door to the folder, wher it says I have a paper jam and it is all clear. After I remove all the paper to get it printing again, all works well for another 5 to 10 copies.

Where is the switch that is too sensitive? If that is what it is?

For start check in service mode for jam code.

    1. It's likely your problem comes from one of the sensor flags, it takes time to return after the paper has passed-silicone oil spillage can cause this (the dust as well or a deformed spring).

    2. If the alarm is 'jam in the feeder' (haven't seen the jam in the folder), check the registration sensor flag first.

    wish u luck!

if it shows a jam and theres no paper jammed in the finisher or machine then the problem is machine related
check the jam codes in service mode
but if it shows a jam on multiple runs there should be paper in the copier somewhere

    Still fighting with it

There are no jam codes, it is just the message on the screen when it quits, to clear the folder. I have checked the sensors, they all move free and I sprayed the dust out with compressed air.

I noticed now, on a couple stops, the last booklet is hanging slightly, as if the roller that is pushing it out hasn't completed the turn. I had to tug a little to get it the rest of the way out.

I am guessing that if it is this last exit hesitation, that would trip the sensor there.

Is there some reason for the roller not turning more, is this an alignment/registration thing?

Crap, I was looking in the wrong direction

I reset the print to go straight through, no folding or stapling, and the machine stalled again with the same paper jam picture on the screen, so I tried two sided regular letter size and it did the same thing, single sided it works fine so I guess I gotta look deeper into the two sided functions.

Screen keeps telling me to clear the folder, but there is nothing there,

If there aren't any jam codes then try IO mode and check your sensors to see if any are activated.

Seems to be lots of I/O codes and one jam

    the jam code is 0305 - 1310 - 0 - 030B - 1 - 000000

I replaced the lower tray (for the double side) from a second machine I have and it didn't make any difference

    As for I/O - IP - 24 codes showing
    DC con - 9 showing
    Feeder - 24 showing
    Sorter - 74
    MF con - 1

    are u a tech ??
u need to isolate the issue/
First-on straight through copying -test from all paper locations/ if jam=check for code
when was the last maintenance done on this machine ??
**Knowledge is time consuming, exhausting and costly for a trained Tech.**

now you are sking if they are a tech
most of the posts the last month or so appear to be either newbies or end users trying to fix it themselves
that is why I have been so much of an asshole
if they wanna fix it figure it out
thats how it was 26 years ago when i started and ya know after 26 years i still haven;t figured it all out
    close but always learning
