iR110 Series Windows 7 Driver Issues

    Howdy,

    Fortunately, this isn't a fire drill...yet.

I have an iR150 customer who has started replacing Windows XP workstations with Windows 7 machines; so far all are 32 bit.

The SCS has version 6.00 System Software.

The only driver that supports Windows 7 is version 8.0, both PS and PCL.

This driver installs fine, but we can't access any finishing: duplex, stapling, and output destination commands all get ignored.

I tried printing to file to see if the KDK commands were correct, and sho' 'nuff, the finishing and output commands were not there.

This means that the System Software is off the hook; the issue is between the driver and Windows 7.

This is a domain environment, but the users have full admin rights to their own PCs, and print directly to their printers.

Both the PCL and PS drivers have the same issue.

Has anyone seen this? I'm sure that this can't be the first time. (Our help desk has not called me back yet with the resolution they were researching.)

    Gracias!

Canon pretty much doesn't, but Kodak does. (It's the Digimaster 9110.)

I would imagine that IBM and Heidelberg do too, but I didn't need to look that far.

I'll post a link to the Kodak site as soon as I find it again. (It's on my other computer.)

I found it, right here: Digimaster Drivers Main Page - Kodak Graphic Communications Group

You have to download the System 8 drivers to get Windows 7 support.

Again, we do get output, but we don't get finishing. We have been told that this is a Windows 7 rights issue, but just what right do we need?

It's the Digimaster 9110; just Kodak's name for the same box.

IBM calls it an Infoprint 9110 (I think), and I don't know what Heidelberg calls theirs, but I do remember that it's a 9110 also. (We took over service on one some years ago, and I got called in when they were having various printing issues.)

They don't install - at least from what I've been told.

Would it be possible to leave an XP PC hooked up to the 9110, sharing the printer, and use it as a print server? Would "7" not see the shared printer and be able to use it? I hate how OS's get released with very little regard for legacy devices...

Problem resolved, thanks to our friends at Kodak!

It turns out that there is a (well) hidden file, named "settings.dsf" that is a mix of binary and text.

That file gets changed to match the settings for the specific job. All we needed to do was to allow full access to this file and TA-DA!

The IT manager installed the driver using the admin credentials, but the domain user, who has supposed full local admin rights, had insufficient rights to this file, so everything printed using default settings only.

I have a REALLY tough time considering a 4 year old $400,000 printer to be "legacy", but I guess it is.
