    Blurry C3220 color copies

I have a nightmare C3220 in the field. Color copies are blurry. We have done the following:

    Replaced transfer belt unit
    Replaced swing gear assy
    Adjusted laser cams
Checked cams that hold itb unit in place
    Performed DC con clear
    Performed MN con clear
Replaced DC controller and Main controller

Customer took the drums and toner cartidges out and BLEW this machine out with compressed air. He says the copies were blurry before he did this. Customer is COD but can't charge him until we fix it and we are out many man hours already!

Any other ideas? All parts were swapped out from a good working copier.

have u check your wall outlet for correct voltage & ground-post readings-
    Hot to Net./120v +/-10%
    Hot to Gd./
    120v +/-10%
Net. to Gd=this should be 0v-0.5v

no one in their right mind uses compressed air inside a machine -

when u swap or change Lasers,DC Clear or replace DCpcb u need to do a>>>>
    COPIER>FUNCTION>LASER>L-ADJ-0
    1) Remove all 4 color drum units, and close the front cover.
    2) Select this item, and press the OK key to execute the operation. The operation stops automatically.
    3) When automatic adjustment has finished, “END” is displayed in the screen.
Note- The DC controller uses the photo diode in the laser unit to automatically measure the light quantity when each laser emits its minimum light quantity.
This operation is used to compensate the time the laser lights during minimum light quantity emission.
Each laser unit (Y/M/C/K) is adjusted in sequence.

when u swap or replace or clear Ram on a DC Controller PCB>must go in
    COPIER>ADJUST>LASER>PVE-OFST
Use it to enter an adjustment value for the laser beam position from the service label or P Prints

what are the error codes ???????????????????

    POST THE GRID PATTERN PRINTS
    -
    are all colors offset ?
have u put back the settings from all those clears-

is it in paper feed or cross-feed direction or both ???

    SUB SCAN.JPGMAIN SCAN.JPG

did u pull out or change the Patch Read unit ??

what about the listed ERROR CODES ??

I would also look at replacing the ITB/DRUM DRIVE ASSEMBLY

I have exactly the same problem. Apart from pulling transfer belt unit (easy) - don't know much about the machine. The above posts give me a few clues. Hate to think it could be the ITB/drum drive assy... Is taking the transfer belt unit apart and cleaning rollers a good idea in this case? See copies attached, made forced color copy on some internal print outs from b/w. Machine works fine in b/w, though....

For my 2 cents.. you can try removing the transfer belt and completely clean the rubber rollers inside it with WD40. also clean the transfer rollers carefully with a small swipe of isopropyl alcohol. refit and try.I solved similar problem in irc 5180 by doing this. Sometimes swapping the Transfer belt assly also does not work and can be misleading.

That is the worst info someone (if u have experience) can give for ITB maintenance -

u don't clean those Primary sponge rollers with alcohol/ when they get saturated with toner, u change them-alcohol dries out any type of rollers-
when Canon says use alcohol on rollers, they are full of crap

WD40 to clean rollers ?? If I found out one of my techs. used WD40 to clean rollers or on bushings in an imageRunner -I would fire them.

I once caught two techs spraying that crap into spring clutches , inside a Sorter- It made the worst mess I have ever seen. They now work XEROX, thank the lord-

Hate to admit it, but I am washing my hands of this copier. Sent my tech out about 6 times and paid a tech from another company to get a fresh look and still unable to resolve this. Trying to upgrade them into something else, maybe I can take it in on trade and try again in the shop. Teckat, thanks for all your help, I'm sure the fix was in there somewhere and we just missed it.

I asked to clean "ONLY THE RUBBER ROLLERS" with WD40 NOT "SPRING CLUTCHES" or any other metal parts. FYI WD40 can be used to clean rubber Pickup rollers with great effect. you are right about using WD40 on Clutches bearings or metal bushings which i never told etc but NOT on Rubber parts.

I have cleaned the primary transfer rollers with alcohol plenty of times to rectify copy quality defects even in BW copiers. You have to do it carefully.

I am trained tech from 1983
