Canon 720i wierd

Had a ROM error, machine locked out, etc. Replaced roms , machine seems to be doing ok except when copying or scanning it \"splits\" the image and stretches it so that it looks like a void area going down the middle. Could the image scanner be bad too? Printed out all the scanner info in codes and they match up with the ones in the service manual. Hate to try a scanner before seeing if I\'m just missing something? Tried disconnecting print bd. etc. TIA Jim
