If you want to know TRUE COST (yours, not the customer's) then you need to do the following:
1.) Get docs from customers and gauge what kind of density (fill) they have on average. Most customers use upwards of 20% coverage, and some abusive A**hole customers can approach 80% + ! I'd call that 'abuse', or 'excessive', and I would write into my service contract (if that's what you're asking about) clauses that they'll be charged extra for that.
2.) You need to factor in the following: your cost for toner, drums, fusers, feed rollers, etc. per page. How?
Toner cost divided by yield at (x% average coverage) = toner cost per page
Fuser "
Drum "
(Color machines) all other colors, transfer belts, rollers, etc.
As the prev. poster illustrated, in order to make a profit in this business of service or cpc agreements, you must charge AT LEAST triple your true costs. As the customer's volume gets higher and higher, they get to demand a lower and lower cost per page. I've heard of agreements that state as low as 1.5c for B&W, however, there are always clauses (i.e. toner not included past x thousand pages per month, or certainn supplies excluded or service only, etc., etc.) to make up for the low cpc. I'd say you can't go wrong with 2c black and 10c color as long as you have language to protect yourself from 10,000 full color ass-shots per month.
