Canon IR 5000 feed multi-feeds from decks.
This may be one of those TIP's.
Both decks are not feeding very well. I went over last week, pulled the feed head for the right
deck and put two sheets of paper between the feed and sep rollers and pushed the gear. Both
sheets fed together. I saw the torque limiter turn in the feed direction. So I swapped that
limiter with the one in tray 4, the least used tray. (The spring for the sep roller is set at the
lowest setting per the manual to reduce multi-feeds.) Same test the sheets separated.
Test tray four, the sheets separated.
It would multi-feed 3-4 sheets in a 15 page run. When I finished I ran 40-50 pages and so did
the customer. Alls well right?
They call back with the same problem today. I did clear all the jam codes so I will have some
current codes which I will gladly share tomorrow.
As I recall all the feed rollers had less than 10K on the counters.
On the back wall of the machine behind the left feed deck, there is a white lever. What purpose does
it serve? It moves easily back and forth. Is it attached to a solenoid or something?
Any suggestions welcome
Thanks

Re: Canon IR 5000 feed multi-feeds from decks.
put the spring back in the middle, change the rollers.
the last time i saw anyone adjust that spring was about 20 years ago. it should not be necessary.
replace it if it is deformed.
use fb2-7777 sep roller.
adjust the pressure to the middle, if someone has played with it.
you can swop the the separation unit between deck 1, and cassette 3 or 4

Motor Driver PCB Assembly ??
FG6-4947-000
The pickup assembly possesses as many as 12 2-phase stepping motors of magnetic excitation type. Each motor is supplied with 24-V power from the motor driver PCB, and is
turned on/off and its direction of rotation is controlled by pulse signals from the DC controller PCB.

Re: Canon IR 5000 feed multi-feeds from decks.
Thanks for getting back so quickly. I am in front of the machine now.
I just ran 5 sets of 17pgs from the right deck. No problems. All I did
was fluff up the paper.
The customer sez they do not usually fluff the paper. I think that is part
of the problem this time of year in Phoenix. It has been hot and the due
point has been up and down. Changes in humidity have been know to cause
problelms like this inconsistant feed.
Vigour, I will set the sring back to the middle setting. I am the only one that
services this unit, so it must be my fault.
Teckat, I have not had a problem with the motors coming on, it is what
happens after that that is the problem.
From the left deck I ran the same 17 pgs 5 sets. It jammed on the second set.
A piece of paper was very skewed in the path, with one corner bent down.
The lead corner toward the front of the machine.
Does this sound familar? And it is intermittant.
One thing I noticed about the left deck is that the small pick up rollers don't
seem to come down evenly. Seems like the one in the back is a little late.
It is difficult for me to actuate the left deck feed assembly when I have it out
of the machine to check this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Canon IR 5000 feed multi-feeds from decks.
Opps sorry forgot to include these codes.
The most frequent code from the right deck is 0 0110 1
From the left deck I get 0 020F 2. I also get 0110 from the
left deck.
Right deck jam. When I clear the jam, I find 2 sheets, that separated under the
drum, one was just into the nip of the fuser and the other was half way through
the registration unit. Both had heavy dark lines of un-fuser toner from where the
drum continued to turn for a second. Neither sheet was wrinkled.
Sometimes both sheets would go through with out jamming.
Left deck jam. It was about the same only the lead page was skewed in the path.
If it got through the fuser it would get stuck in the delivery turn over area, because
it was also skewed. And it was wrinkled with sharp creases.
And as mentioned the front lead edge corner was bent over.
Sometimes I would get a 010B (Retry sensor PS19 left deck).
0110=delay internal delivery PS35
020F=stationary claw sensor PS4
Hope that helps.
Thanks
