no dial tone

I installed a fax unit on a Canon IRC 2020. The machine can send and receive fax. The only problem I have is I do not hear the dial tone. Did I miss anything on the installation and settings? Please I need guidance on what to check or settings to change. Thanks.

The machine wont be able to send or receive a fax with no dial tone.

Sounds like you have the line monitor tuned off, look in volume settings & turn it on or up.

Was it installed and plugged in.
