    False count on color usage?

    Fellows,

This customer has an iR-c4080 and she swears they never make any color copies but the counters are always showing 30-50 color pages per day.

Is it possible for the counters to go haywire? Are there any technical bulletins explaining the behavior of counters? I would like to show them any Canon paper that explains that counters cannot be tampered with at all. They refuse to pay my color usage bills.

    Thanks in advance.

are they printing, if so is the default set to colour or black...if it's set to colour, then even if one letter on the page is coloured it will take is as a colour print..

    on control panel display>
you can set a Color imageRUNNER to COPY in Black Mode by default--

From the Display Panel of the imageRUNNER change the setting from "Auto - Color" to "Black" using the pull down menu.
    Press -Additional Functions
    Select -Copy Settings
Scroll down to select -Standard Settings
    Select -Store
    Select -Yes
    Select -Done

Power of /on Printer // The Display for Copies will now default to BLACK

Now when making copies from the glass, the imageRUNNER will automatically default to Black Only.

***now only way it will count as COLOR in Counters if Customer selects AUTO of Full Color on Control Panel for their Copies

    do u bill under the 108 COUNTER (Total(B&W 1)

also for 11x17 paper to receive a double click (two meter clicks)use 102 COUNTER

is customer printing from a computer ??

Set Pure Black Text/Graphics to 'ON' in the Expert Settings menu of the PS print driver. Here's how:

    1. In the PS print driver properties select Printing Preferences.
    2. Select the 'Color Wise' menu and click on the 'Expert Settings' button.
    3. Look for the 'Pure Black Text/Graphics selection and change it to 'on' in the pull down menu.
    4. Click OK or Apply and exit the printing preferences screen.
    5. Now try your black text only print again and the color counter should not increment.

The copier is set to default to Black. They may choose color, if desired. The drivers on all computers have been set to default to black. They may choose color if desired. The customer refuses to active Access-control.

I use counters 101 and 108 to calculate monthly color usage.

Re: False count on color usage?

I had a customer with an iR-C4080 a few years ago that printed a lot of scanned medical text jpg images embedded in Word documents.

The added typed text on the page was all black, and the scans were done in black and white, as well.

The drivers were set to auto detect color.

Unfortunately, all graphic images print in color mode, regardless of the content of the image.

The customer insisted that the counters were wrong and didn't think they should pay us, as their prints contained no color.

    That one got ug-leeee.

    Convert before scanning

The simplest way to make a color photo black and white is to make it grayscale. Click on 'image,' then 'mode,' and then select 'grayscale.'
