Question Canon iR4080 - Scan to e-mail End Code 801 and 899

Hi,

I have a very strange issue that popped up with about 6 of our canon iR4080 Copiers. About a month ago they all started having issues reaching the SMTP server to send a scanned document to email. Now we have not made any changes on the network and also have a variety of other iR series copiers that do the function still fine, for example we have an iR5000 and a iR5020 here in my current office that work fine. I have checked and verified all the settings on all machines. DNS, WINS, etc but am not sure what is the problem. Someone suggested that the license/software might need to be re-installed but canon does not think so.

I would like to try to find out what the end codes of 801 and 899 mean but canon also told me they couldn't help me with that either.... weird. Anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks

All of our remote offices are connected via a T1 connection. We don't use comcast and all of our office's already has a static IP. Also it works in over 50 offices already. its just the offices with the iR 4080's that don't work....

Sorry about the length but this should address the issue.

Problem :
Canon Universal Send devices cannot send mail through Microsoft Exchange Server when authentication is set on outgoing mail. * Note - The imageRUNNER C2620, C3200, C3220, C3100, C3170, C5800, C6800, C5870U, C6870U, C2880, C2880i, C3380, C3380i, C4080, C4080i, C4580, C4580i, C5180, C5180i, 2016i, 2020i, 2270, 2870, 3570, 4570, 5055, 5065, 5070, 5075, 5570, 6570, 8070, 9070, 105+, 7105, 7095, and 7086 models now support SMTP authentication via a username and password.

Solution :
The older Canon Universal Send devices do not have the ability to authenticate with Microsoft Exchange. There is no option in the copier’s settings to enter authentication information for SMTP. If the Exchange Server is configured to require authentication for outgoing mail, the Canon device will not be able to send mail.
* Note - The imageRUNNER C2620, C3200, C3220, C3100, C3170, C5800, C6800, C5870U, C6870U, C2880, C2880i, C3380, C3380i, C4080, C4080i, C4580, C4580i, C5180, C5180i, 2016i, 2020i, 2270, 2870, 3570, 4570, 5055, 5065, 5070, 5075, 5570, 6570, 8070, 9070, 105+, 7105, 7095, and 7086 models now support SMTP authentication via a username and password.

The following configurations on MS Exchange will cause this problem:

Exchange 5.5:
1. Open Exchange Administrator and go to the connections container.
2. Double click on Internet Mail Service.
3. Go to the connections tab.
4. Under accept connections, select only from hosts using.
5. Choose Authentication, Encryption, or Auth and Encrypt.
Exchange 2000:
1. Open System Manager > Servers > "Server Name" > Protocols > SMTP > Default SMTP Virtual Server.
2. Go to the properties of the default SMTP server.
3. Click the access tab and click the authentication button.
4. Choose Basic Authentication, Windows Integrated Authentication, or both.
While there is nothing that can be done on the Canon device to correct this issue at this time, there are some workarounds that can be tried on the Exchange Server.

I have Exchange 2003 and a iR4570. I am also getting the #801 error. I have already setup authentication on my server the way you mentioned, and I am still having the same issue. Any more thoughts on this?

My #801 problem was resolved by adding access permission to Exchange/SMTP for each printer device.
Exchg Sys Manager...
Domain...
Admin Grps...
1st Admin Grp...
Servers...
Your Exchg Server...
Protocols...
SMTP...
Default SMTP...
Props...
Access...
Connection...
Add the IP of each Printer.
(You may need to power cycle each device.)
E-mail me if you need a better explanation.

Regards,
Jay Englund, MCP

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, but my connection settings have to be wide open. If I close it off and add the information for my spam filter, and for the canon printer, I still have people using POP with no static public IP addresses who are not literate enough to use DDNS who cannot get Email. So, I have to leave this setting wide open. Any other thoughts? Needless to say, that setting is set to "All Except the List Below."

I have a similar issue with a client:

Old Machine: 3320i
New Machine: 4080

copied their email settings over EXACTLY and the 4080 does not send (sending, resending, end code #752)

They use Comcast as their SMTP Out Server. Every setting is identical

anything?

Canon End Code #899

From the Canon Sending Guide:

Cause: The e-mail or I-fax has been successfully sent, but reception may be incomplete because transmission was relayed via multiple servers.

Remedy: Confirm whether reception was complete. Check if you received an error mail.

First of all confirm if the license is still valid. It could have been a trial version.
Error 801
means timeout error while communicating with SMTP server to send mail or I-fax
remedy:
check smtp server
check network status
check destination settings
check settings of the file server.

Error 899
The e-mail message ir I-fax has been successfully sent but reception may be incomplete because the transmission was relayed via multiple servers.
confirm whether reception was complete
check if you received an error notification.
