My guess is that someone shut the clam shell with an obstruction, causing the deformation. One thing I dont understand is when removing the separation roller there was no noise or jamming, just multiple feeding, this totally threw me in the wrong direction. Separation drive is totally separate from registration, transport and delivery sections. Thanks for the input guys
There is a very powerfull tool (service mode) for this model. You can use it to try any motor, sensor...

Where can I find this service mode tool? The scanner I'm working on is not using the factory capture software.

    ----------------------------------
    SERVICE MODE
The service mode of this machine can be executed by installing the service mode software (service tool) located in the setup
disc bundled with this machine or supplied for servicing on the computer for servicing.

This service tool is an integrated tool that consists of a common EXE file and DLL files for each product.

The initial screen is shown below.
    tool.JPG
When a work button is selected on the initial screen, the corresponding screen is displayed and each service mode can be executed.

Starting Up and Exiting Service Mode
The procedure for starting up the service mode is described below.
    1) Connect the computer for servicing with this machine using a USB or SCSI interface cable.
    2) Power ON this machine.
    3) Open the installed folder and start up the “DRUnificationTool.exe” file.
    tool.JPG
    4) The password screen is displayed, so after inputting the 6 characters “market,” select [OK].
    tool.JPG
    5) The initial screen is displayed.
    tool.JPG
    6) If each service mode is executed, select [Select Scanner] and if the firmware is
    registered, select [Firm Registration].
    7) When [Select Scanner] is selected, the scanner selection screen is displayed.
    Select the connected scanner.

    8) The Main Menu screen is displayed.
To terminate the service mode, select
[x:Close] on each operation screen or select [End Application] from [File] on the toolbar.

    Reference: Folder and files
Save files required for the integrated tool in the same folder. The folder name can be changed freely, but the file name must not be
changed. The files necessary for this machine are the following three types:
    • DRUnificationTool.exe
    Execution file (EXE file)
Used in common for all products.
    • DR-6050C.dll, DR-7550C.dll, DR-9050C.dll
File for each product (DLL file)
    • DRUnificationTool.LOC
    Language translation file (Japanese/ English)
Another product for the integrated tool that will be created later can be used by saving a DLL file in this folder.
When “Firmware Registration” is executed, necessary folders and files are created in this folder. Refer to the “Firmware Registration” section for details

    Re: Canon DR9050c Scanner

If the tray sits at the bottom and rollers turn, then the photo interrupt that detects proper tray feeding position is thinking tray is in upper position. Should be straight forward(actuator hanging up or something). Don't mess with sensor position if not necessary...thats why it has loktite on screw. Lots of good info here...should be able to figure it out. I have tons of these and older ones(9080,7580,etc). Pretty well all the same. Mine scan over 100k per month on each one. Awesome scanners

Thanks guys for the help. It was the pick-up sensor, I just needed the diagnostic tool to calibrate it.

hello again! I'm back on this machine and it jamming but if I press slightly on left side it will feed fine. In the middle of trying to fix this thing it's giving me a error E046 not sure what it is or how to clear it! I just pulled off covers and it gave me the code! Any help would be great! Thanks

    =========

E046 // Main drive PCB (Controller CPU judgment)

If a communication error occurs between the motor or sensor and PCB, an error message appears. If it appears, reset the main body and computer power.
If the same error message/code still appears, check the connection of the related part, and if it is faulty, correct it.
If there is no problem with connections, replace the related part. For motors, check the connected drive transmission parts and operation check sensor as well.

"E046" is on the display soon after powering on.
The Service Manual refers to the code as an issue with the Main Drive PCB.
In some cases, the Main Drive PCB was replaced and the error code remained.

check if LED 1 on the Main Drive PCB was not lit at all (should be blinking).

To Troubleshoot further, we removed all the connectors from the Main Drive PCB except J201. This caused two error codes (E044 then E033 which were the same as our lab machine), but more importantly, LED 1 started flashing. After inserting the connectors one-by-one, tech re-created the E046 when he plugged in J207.

J207 goes from the Main Drive PCB to the Ultrasonic PCB. The wiring was checked.

    Workaround :
In this case, the Ultrasonic PCB (MG1-4263-000) was replaced to resolve the E046 code.

    ================================================== ================

The unit is powered on and displays a E046 error code.

The firmware on the machine was flashed prior to this becoming a consistent problem.

In some cases, the Main Controller firmware was updated but the Main Drive CPU firmware was not updated. Upon updating the Main Drive CPU firmware, the unit started working properly.

Use the service tool to check the versions of firmware. The ( year 2010 )
    versions are shown below.

    think it's now v1.21

    Main Controller Firmware v1.11
    Main Drive CPU firmware v.35
    Sub Drive CPU Firmware v.32
