After looking at another 4570 in my shop I find it hard to imagine the cassette feed motor being able to cause this problem. I wonder if the one way on the feed roller shaft or some other gear in the rear of the cassette feed unit could cause this.

swap in another unit has same issue== could be a harness connection short to ground that freezes M6/
Inspect the Paper pick-up Motor unit in rear of printer(gears, timing belts, pulley ,etc.

Feeding rollerseize issue
does this happen in #1 & #2 bay

on print/copy start the M6 turns on> then SL1 for Pick Up Roller is activated
>then paper pick up takes place

The paper inside the cassette is held up by the lifter plate. When pickup takes place, the pickup roller moves down to come into contact with the surface of paper. The pickup roller is moved down when the pickup solenoid goes on.
The feed roller and the separation roller serve to make sure that a single sheet of paper is moved to the feed path, and the paper is moved as far as the registration roller by the work of the vertical path roller.

The problem only happens in the #1 bay. I hope that I had two used assemblies that had the same problem and that the problem is in the assembly. I replaced the paper pickup assembly again this morning hoping this takes care of the issue. If I have the assembly out in my hands and hold the gear still that receives drive from the cassette feed drive motor, I cannot simulate a situation where the feed roller drive shaft seizes up( it always free wheels in the one direction because of the oneway). Therefore I do not see how the drive motor could cause the problem. Thank you for the response. I will wait and see if the customer calls back.

Rolls won't turn while in machine? What if you unplug assembly? Try a dcon clear. Maybe brake voltage applied when not supposed to or something. Like Teckat said swap the motors
First swap the motor's like teck said. Then if it still does it same tray it's a wiring/dcon issue. DCON clear may help too. Dirty power can cause all sorts of wonky things to happen.
Thank you for all the responses. I did replace the pickup unit again and am waiting to see if the customer has the same jamming problem. I am out of town right now but when I get back I plan on putting the assembly that originally malfunctioned into my shop machine to see if I can have the problem happen again.
