Going backwards like you plan to do - will often fry an egg on top of the main board.

Have you ever wandered why Canon bothers with the new firmware series ???

I would replace the head and keep printing.

but that is just my opinion...

I have had some success cleaning these heads, flush the nozzels out with some alcohol based cleaner (not water etc) & gently wipe the print head surface.

But I agree you would never want to downgrade firmware, not sure that's even possible.

Try ebay for a new printhead, some companies sell off their old stock cheap.

    Thanks for advice,
but have a look first for a nozzle 1 check scan
nozzle 2 check scan is perfect, we are useing the printer only for CAD drawing , I assume that why the BK is blocked

Its no good that the new printer after a year use has print-head problem and I need to pay almost a half of brand new printer cost to fix it (after cleaning type B process all inks gone, maintenance cartridge gone, so the total cost at the moment is 250-300 punds (printhead) 45 pounds (maintenace cartidge) 300 pounds all new ink as the old one is gone before of that = total cost aroudn 650 pounds --- new printer cost 900 pounds more or lesss -- SO
everyone see that is something wrong - I would suggest for everyone than no buying Canon ploter use the HP as we have 2 of them they are works perfectly since a 5-6 years

    Still looking for help

well i would never recommend this if it was not for a last resort ok, as for the downgrade i wouldn't recommend it either, might fry or brick your mainboard, as for the head itself try the alcohol based cleaner first and if that doesn't do it (and only as a last resort and with extreme care) try to put the head in hot water not boiling but hot with 2 or 3 drops of mild neutral ph dish washing soap leave for 5 to 10 min then do it again for a couple times, on the last times you shake it try to do it against paper or something you can notice bits of ink going out in the water. try not to get to much water in the contacts part, try bo blow of the most water you can with a compressor (compressed air machine) and let it dry naturally (don't dry it with hair blower or something like that). after being dry put it on the machine and do a couple of deep clean cycles and see what you get.
won't be a miracle cure for all problems ( i got a 50/50 success out of the ones i tried from small inkjet printers to a W2200 and BJW3000) but still the worst thing that could happen would be for you to need to get another head which already is happening, so and keeping in mind that this should be a last resort (can kill the print head for good) try it if you want and let us know how it went
    Life is a learning continuum...

Well, do you think that canon is doing well for all of us care for us
before we have same problem witht printhead so read this:

Firmware update history fir ipf 605:

    Modifications from Ver.1.06 to Ver.1.07
    1. Fix the hung up issue rarely occurs when going into sleep mode.
    2. Fix the paper jam with plain paper which rarely happens at the leading edge of roll paper.
    3. The problem that the community name setting in SNMP setting was not processed correctly has been fixed.
    4. Shutdown timer function has been added.
    -Shutdown timer
After the printer goes into Sleep Mode, power will be turned off automatically when the situation that the printer is not operated continues until the time being set in advance by operation panel.
    Setup time:OFF/ 5 min./ 10 min./ 30 min./ 1 hour/ 4 hours/ 8 hours*/ 12 hours *Initial value when updating version.

    Note:
To fix the issue 2., please apply the MCT versions below to the printer and its driver after upgrading the firmware.

    Windows 32bit 3.1106
    Windows 64bit 3.1106
    Mac OS X v10.4-v10.7 3.13
    Mac OS X v10.2-v10.3 3.1206

    Modifications from Ver.1.02 to Ver.1.06
    1. The acquisition of serial number of main body by iWEMC supported
    2. The failure of retrieving from sleep mode on rare occasions fixed
    3. The failure of inability to print in HP/GL2 printing when file name contains 2-byte character(s) and the second byte is "5C" (back slash) fixed
    4. The drive control in printing optimized

    Modifications from Ver.1.01 to Ver.1.02
    1. In case the nozzles are clogged, formerly you would stop printing and check the printout,
and then continue printing by pressing the Online key.
Now it automatically checks the level of clogging, and if it is possible to print it will continue printing,
and if it needs a printhead replacement, it will display a Replace Printhead message.
This modification will greatly improve the workability.
    2. Functions in the HP-GL/2 mode have been improved.

    Thats from canon usa website

Modification from cer 1.01 to ver. 1.02 read this

Smile Re: Printhead in Canon IPF605 problem and firmware 1.01

This modification will NOT improve the workability at all,

if you have even small problem with youn nozzles as me, you have no choice
need to buy new printhead for a additional cost 30% of the brand new printhead

the hp company know that sometimes is the problem with blocked nozzles
so designed printhead smallest for each type of color and cost of it is 40-45 pound

this is obvious that canon will improve their firmeare from v1.01 to 1.02
is this cases for increase their income , they are selling mire printhead than evere
for a lot of money this is some sort of hidden cost

can not be like that that the software will deceide and forceing us to spend extra
cash becouse he is not happy wirh the print quality, it should be that the customer
will see and deceided that the quality is bad an after nozzle check he see
    ne printhead is needed

tricky update by canon , please do not tell that is for our help, this is for paying
more money for cannon that it isn not?

On the time i buying new printer if i know that i need to sped every a year or two extra 300 pounds
i would newer buy this printer i would make difrent

i thing that canon could leave some special key combination to unblock
this message an carry on with printing ( just in case) everyone maybe who been wirking
In canon previously or design update firmware could know and help every customer
who has similar problem like me

Usually it is not a surface problem - so cleaning in most cases won't help. I even tried putting a syringe with water into each of the inks and fire the water away through the nozzles with no success. The reason why cleaning mostly will not be successful is that there is a "filter" inside the head which gets blocked and that one you cannot clean unless you smash the head

Yeah these are using inks (water based) as opposed to dyes(oil based) so water is sufficient to try to clean them. Luke warm water soak the bottom quarter inch for a day..swishing it around once in a while. Then rinse it with pure isoproply to speed up drying. Some times it works, sometimes it don't. If it don't replace it

Have you seen attached jpg of nozzle check map, this in not look like blocked nozzles,
Can we electrical fault I think, but even if there is same problem, we should decided NOT Canon
About PRINTHEAD replacement, as the printing is working in SERVICE MODE it means that this is not big issue to carry on using this PRINTHEAD.

I will tell you more, we been told by canon service that if we buy new PRINTHEAD we need to pay extra 80 pounds for a technical we will install PRINTHEAD to the ploters in order to have one year warranty - !

The PRINTHEAD replacement is very easy, such as ink replacement, if you buy new printer, you have to put PRINTHEAD yourself and this in not indicated for warranty, why now is different?

Probably I will buy PRINTHEAD in japan stock, the cost is almost half, why is so expensive in Europe?

Regards to all customer who has a cannon printers
