Most Options in the Fax Menu are Grayed Out The "Hook" Button is Grayed Out while viewing the Fax Menu on devices equipped with an Optional Fax Kit.Problem :
The "Hook" Button is Grayed Out while viewing the Fax Menu on devices equipped with an Optional Fax Kit. The "Hook" button is not available while looking at the fax screen as shown here.
Solution :
This will be simply addressed by checking the current configuration as it relates to Fax. It will be necessary to "Turn Off" the option for "Limit New Destination" for fax as shown here.
Enter the Limit New Destination Menu by executing the following keystrokes.
Settings / Registration > (Logon as Administrator) > Function Settings > Send > Common Settings > Limit New Destination.
Notice that in the condition where the Hook button is not available the option will be turned on as illustrated here
To enable the Hook button, "Turn Off" the Limit New Destination for Fax as illustrated here.
Once this is accomplished, the once grayed Hook button will now be available.

While trying to use the On-Hook key for a fax transmission, it is observed that the key is not active or "Grayed Out", as shown below.
Solution :
The On-Hook Key is not active since the option to "Limit New Destinations" for fax has been set.
To correct this, use the following key sequence to reach the menu shown below.
Settings / Registration > Function Settings > Send > Common Settings > Limit New Destination.
Once this has been corrected, the Hook Key will be active as shown below

What do you mean by line noise? To me that means a handset plugged into the handset jack on copier and hearing crackling...phone cord,etc. What errors are they getting...#018s? On all my fax connected machines, I set the attentuation to 8,NLE(noise line equalizer) to a 1. This enables it. If I remember off the top of my head,FAX/MENU/bit5 to a 1,bit7 to a 8. This gets rid of a lot of pesky communication errors. Make sure machine has latest firmware. Canon had some firmware out a few years ago on some models that the fax firmware had wrong country codes and other issues. I remember having to tweak fax service mode settings to correct them until Canon put out corrected software. Hope this helps
