IRC3380 remove J1 RIP and convert back to normal networked machine

    Hi

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this one please -

I have a Canon IRC3380 with a J1 RIP on the back of it. The RIP has gone south and I want to convert the machine back to a simple normal networked machine.

I know there is a board which is different on the back (above the network board) which I've changed back to the network type but I can see no other differences. I've set the machine back to 0 in Service Mode Level 1, Option, Interface, IMG-CONT and CNT-TYPE is set to 1

I can get the machine device status and ping the machine but it will not print using the UFR II driver at all and in Printer Settings PCL does not appear???

Any help would be really good thanks!!

    Cheers

    Mark

I thought IMG-CNT has to be set to 0, so the machine knows there isn't a Fiery on it.

I dont think the 3380 has any print functionality at all but to confirm press the counter button and device config if you see UFR, PCL or postscript, PS a license has been registered and you can use that driver.

The fact you can ping it means nothing as the ethernet port is used for firmware updates.

The 3380I has UFR and PCL.

    Color PCL Printer Kit
The Color PCL Printer Kit can be attached only to the Color imageRUNNER C3380/ C2880, and is well-suited for users who are using Microsoft Office applications. It supports PCL 5c emulation printing solutions.
    NOTE
    • For the Color imageRUNNER C3380i/C2880i, the machine is equipped with the PCL Printer function as standard, therefore you do not need to activate this option.
    • For the Color imageRUNNER C3380/C2880, to use the PCL Printer function, the Color PCL Printer Kit must be available for use.

    Color PS Printer Kit
The Color PS Printer Kit supports PostScript 3 emulation printing solutions.
    NOTE
To use the features of the Color PS Printer Kit, it must be activated by registering a license key, after the memory of the machine has been expanded to 1,536 MB.

    imagePASS
imagePASS is a piggyback printer controller which attaches to the back of the machine.
imagePASS supports Adobe Genuine PostScript 3 and PCL5c, and is suited for office environments in which larger print volumes are frequently processed, or for users who use Adobe PostScript or other PostScript applications.
    NOTE
imagePASS cannot be used with the optional Color PS Printer Kit.

At a minimum,it should print UFR. Setting IMG-CNT to a 1 resets all sorts of various network settings. Having done that, set it to a 0,then reboot. Now re-enter all network settings. Reboot.Should have access to network settings on machine that were not there with RIP. Correct driver for OS? Usually if you have connectivity(ping) and the machine flashes like its processing,it is an incorrect driver. Re-install the system software if all ok as a start. Also what is gone south? Dead, won't come to idle,...? Changed a few fans on these for dead RIP(lol),dust bunny shorts, dirty connections,HDD

Re: IRC3380 remove J1 RIP and convert back to normal networked machine

    Hello Mark if you figure this one out let me know, same situation, but with an IRC 3580;

Removed the SCSI card, installed a RA card in place, set the IMG-CNT to 0

Verified the UFR / RB-A card is there

    Reconfigure IPv4 can see tha machine fine over the network;

I did notice that Print Spooler is not displayed in network settings?

Will not print PCL / PS does not have the licence, but I cannot get it to print UFR 2

Does not make it to even the print log for an #853 jog on message

There must be a setting somewere that I have missed?

    Thanks guys

Re: IRC3380 remove J1 RIP and convert back to normal networked machine

What does it show on your Configuration Page Print out
    ???

    Printing

If you want to use the UFR II printer driver
    - Optional equipment is unnecessary

UFR II printing is standard with all models ( Need to install the UFR II Driver )

If you want to use the PCL printer driver
    - Optional equipment is unnecessary, for the Color imageRUNNER C3380i/C2880i== i SERIES
    - Color PCL Printer Kit, is needed for the Color imageRUNNER C3380/C2880

    • If you want to use the PS printer driver (one of the following is needed)
    - Color PS Printer Kit
    - imagePASS J1
