Direct Print Scan Mobile with Dept ID tracking

    Canon IR Adv C5235

Has Dept ID/password set for printing/copy tracking

    From Canon Overview of DPSM:
Integrate with any Canon supported authentication method (e.g., AA-Prox, ULM, SSO, Dept. ID. 3rd Party MEAP
    applications, etc.)
    Perform mobile print job tracking

Unlike the printer drivers on the PC it seems like the app does not have the option to set a dept ID/password. When printing from the app the jobs just start printing immediately.

Anyone installing the app can print without any further settings and tracking of that users prints would not be tracked.

In the meap sms settings for DPSM there are not many settings. There is an authentification area which requires to enter one Dept ID/Password otherwise the app won't work at all. There is nothing there to suggest the ability to track individual users.

    I don't understand?

Re: Direct Print Scan Mobile with Dept ID tracking

I have talk to canon back and forth today. Finally they even had to test
this in a lab to see how it works but it does work with some snags.

SSL must be turned on to see and activate Security and Tracking in the DPSM
settings. Problem though is that any Apple devices will fail because the
security certificate that is factory installed doesn't work with apple devices.
Canon may fix this in the future they say. Android and blackberry devices are
unaffected and will work just fine.

    1. A security certificate must be created. I asked them how do I do this.
This requires Windows Server 2008 or purchasing (very expensive) one from a
Certificate Authority such as Verisign. My customer doesn't have a server like
this nor do I think they will purchase a cert. Unfortunately I'm not very
    knowledgeable about SSL security certificates.

    2. SSL on the copier must be turned on. Originally it was turned off per
instructions for installing DPSM so that apple devices will work.

    3. In the DPSM meap settings there will be an option now available to turn on
    Security & Tracking.

    4. User will login to the copier and open the Print and Scan app. The QR code
to connect to the copier will now be unique for each user. Once the mobile is
connected it is then tied to the Dept ID that the user logged in with. So now
printing from the mobile app will track each user.

So the difficult part is the security certificate. I'm not even sure where to
start on this. The more I research the subject the more I'm confused.
