    Canon IR3245i Finisher issue

    Hi all ,

I have a Canon IR 3245i that is giving me a fit with an issue with the finisher.

It keeps telling me that I need to remove paper from the output tray, but there is no paper in the tray.

When I get it past that issue, it keeps jamming when trying to move the trays up and down, I have looked all around the trays and even took of covers to ensure nothing was blocking the gears mechanism. Unable to find anything that could be causing the trays to not be able to move.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

If this is the internal finisher S-1, try resetting the Finisher Controller PCB.

With the copier "ON' turn ON all 4 dip switches, cheat the finisher door switch, press and hold SW2 until the LED stops flashing. Then turn off copier, turn off dip switches and turn copier back on. Check to see if the finisher initializes and if the problem is resolved.

    Thanks for the reply Just.

I think its the external Finisher.

But I will try your suggestion when I get back to that copier.

Right now I have it running in Limited Functions Mode (they were not using the Finisher functions anyway, so its not a big issue for them!!)

    Re: Canon IR3245i Finisher issue

    Hi Tekcat,

    My Jam codes run from

    0A01, 1408, 1121, 1011

    Multiple 1011 jam codes.

    Thanks again.

I did notice when I referenced the service manual that just about all of these codes reference the PCB on the finisher.

Gonna try Just a Copier's suggestion and if that will not fix it,

    Probably gonna order the PCB.

    Any other suggestions??

    external finishers
    Finisher AE1 / Saddle Finisher AE2

Finisher is Generating an 1121 Jam Code
jam code is defined as an Inlet Path Sensor Feed Stationary Jam @ PI103-

In this case, paper lint was removed from the PI117 sensor in the Finisher. PI117 is the gear change home position sensor. The sensor is located within the Paper Feeder Motor Assembly. The lint that was found in the sensor was not allowing the gear to switch properly. Below is an explanation of how the sensor works with the shift gear.
The machine shifts down the gear of the inlet motor (M101) to suit the movement of paper (e.g., heavy paper in color mode) arriving from its host machine at 132 mm/sec or slower, and the finisher controller PCB serves to control this mechanism. When the finisher controller PCB receives the operation start signal from the host machine, it turns on the gear change motor (M110) to switch from high- to lower speed lower speed by way of the rack gear/2-step gear. The home position of the gear change motor (M110) is monitored by the gear change home position sensor (PI117).When a switch over has been made from high- to low speed gear, the finisher controller PCB drives the inlet motor (M101) to start delivery of paper. When the trailing edge of paper reaches the buffer assembly, the machine stops the paper once, and drives the gear change motor (M110) to switch over from low- to high speed gear. Thereafter, the machine performs normal stacking operation for the paper.

1011 Jam can be caused by the Foam Pads for the Fixing Delivery Reversal Flapper. Check to see if the Foam Pads are missing or damaged. The part number for the Foam Pads are FC5-0693-000.

Exclamation Re: Canon IR3245i Finisher issue

    Hi TekCat & All,
I want to thank you all for your insights.

When I get a chance to get back to the copier I will try each of your suggestions. and Hopefully 1 of them will do the trick!!

If not I guess I will need to order the PCB.

Thanks again for all the recommendations and ideas on how to fix the issue.

Re: Canon IR3245i Finisher issue -UPDATE

None of these possible fixes were able to resolve the issue.

I guess I will just order a PCB for the finisher.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

    Re: Canon IR3245i Finisher issue

Looks like it will be a couple of days till the part comes in. (3rd party vendor shipping issue)

Is there anything else I might be able to rule out before I get the board in?

I would love to be able to get this finisher back up and not need the PCB.

I have tried all the options given up to this point and still No -Joy!!

Any further assistance will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
