Canon Advance IRC 2225i Clicking Drums

    Hi all,
I have a canon Advance Irc2225i that has been in a customers for less than a year, and has begun to have clicking drums.
We have changed two but it seems to be going along the line ie black, cyan now magenta.
The machine has only done 12k. There must be something else causing this but i cant figure it.
The drums turn freely enough by hand, i noticed another post on this subject that mentioned a reference to a technical bulletin regarding this problem. But nothing was posted, could anyone enlighten me further or suggest what is causing theis problem?

    Thanks in anticipation

What makes you think that its the drum that's clicking.

I can't find no tech pub on what your experiencing.

Open up the back and inspect.

Thanks for getting back, i've removed the drum and it stops making a noise then replaced the drum and no noise.
I have had to change two drums due to the same problem over the last couple of months.
First the black drum( same problem0, then the Cyan now the magenta has begun to click.
As i stated it has only done 12k and has been in the customers 10 months, all i've been told is that underuse is as bad as overuse.
Apparently the ITB assy was changed under warranty within the first 2 months.

Re: Canon Advance IRC 2225i Clicking Drums

    Hi Tibs,
This symptom is quite popular for most drum unit of Canon iRAC2000 and iRAC2200 series.
Canon has issued a technical bulletin how to detect drum unit cause clicking noise
and the solution is replace that drum unit. However it is costly if do like that
I have double-checked defective drum unit and find out the reason is two gears of waste toner unit.
They make noise during rotation. To save money to solve that problem, you have to modify those gears
instead of replacing whole drum unit. Or re-use waste toner unit of other normal drum unit, no need to care which color drum
That waste toner unit is same for all drum unit.
    Hope this help you.

Any chance of a picture to make sure i'm looking at the right gears?

    Many thanks

I have had a few drums do this as well, so far I have been replacing them as well. I will take a look at the waste toner gears as well and report back.

Any chances of the technical bulletin?

    Thanks nghialuuvn,
now all i need to do is solve the problem !!!
Do you have the technical bulletin that i can use as a reference?
As you've said yourself changing drums all the time isn't cost effective and there must be a solution.
Though it doesnt surprise me anymore with Canon that they havn't produced a solution other than changing the drums wholely.

    thanks again

    Hi Tibs,

There is no official technical bulletin about stuck of gears in drum unit.
You have to do modification by yourself if you want to save cost.
    Good luck to you

Re: Canon Advance IRC 2225i Clicking Drums

Upstream and downsream brushes go to crap on these units, especially black. If you are gonna change parts on the drum unit,I would consider if its worth it. No waste generated by the drum...residual is charged by brushes then attracted back to dev....no blade, not even a cleaner assembly.Waste on this machine is generated by the itb. What if you make just a black copy? On this machine, the color has dev motors and drum motors. The black drum and dev is driven by the itb motor
