I have had issues with power supplies and main controllers causing issues on the wide formats where you get a close cover message. Have you measured voltages and checked the switches for continuity? Most have an upper and lower switch on them.

I did. The switches are testing ok. I think i saw something that said that if the firmware could be updated. Then the close upper cover would go away. I got into download mode and can't upload the firmware with the firmware tool. It says it needs to be in print mode. so that and i saw there was someone who had to replace the Main PCB.

if you can I would make sure all of the DC voltages are being output to all areas. I was missing 24v on the IPF-710 that I had this on, so that is why I replaced power supply first

    Hi, John

This same issue has come into the light to me. I had to dissassembly my plotter and I found out that when i turn it on in service mode that open cover issue shows up, but when i do it as a normal user it gives me this error
    E196-404E

I've looked for it in the Service manual and though it is refered as a main PCB error, I think this issue seems to be a loop which may be caused by the photosensor located below the cover. As soon as I replace this, I'll let you know.

    Greetings,
    Ed

Hi just for reference I have replaced upper/top cover sensor and it made no difference.
Next I will try the main PCB
