Thumbs up IR2800 with erratic feeding from casettes

On a Canon IR2800 may get 20 page then front edge jams at sep roller. I was going to change pickup and sep rollers and torque limiters as a sort of preventive maintenance on pickup assembly. Is there anything else which is advisable to change on this unit as a PM call. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Make sure the tray is lifting completely. You probably already know about the sector gear breakage or ratchets breaking. To test, start with 1/2 cassette of paper, and peek through the crack (or remove the upper tray) so you can watch it lift. This machine uses a ratcheting system, so it's entirely normal for it to be a herky jerky motion, up 2mm, down 1mm, up 2mm, down 1mm, etc. What you don't want to see, is at a certain height it just stops lifting. Up 1mm, down 1mm, up 1mm, down 1mm.

If it works OK 1/2 filled, remove an additional 50 pgs and try again. If it still works OK, remove 50 pgs and try again ... until you're out of paper. A broken sector gear only affects when paper is at a very specific weight. So you have to test various amounts of paper. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks David. Not that experienced on this series. I removed pickup assembly to clean out and inspect. All gears appeared okay. Customer said mare likely to get jamming with full tray then half full.
I ran test on both doing both 1 at a time and multiples of 10 and 50. It jammed a couple of times at the sep rollers with indentation on lead edge in middle. After cleaning out unit and using rubber rejuvenator on roller the machine ran fed more consistently. I told customer I would order a feed kit consisting of the 6 rollers and 2 torque limiters and whatever else is generally recommended for preventive maintenance on that unit.
There is definitely noticeable wear on rollers but before ordering wanting to check in with those more versed on machine for other recommendations as regards pickup assembly. Frank

Yes feed, sep & pick up rollers on this machine only reliably do 80k.
Also check the print quality also, drum doesn't last long on this model, also the fusing cleaning roller, they get caked up all the time, I would also replace that at the same time as the feed roller.
One last thing empty the waste toner, if that gets full, or the bottle window gets dirty it will throw an E019 error code & stop the machine working!

This is was a really good machine back in the day, with good maintenance it would run & run! but sadly Canon have discontinued the feed rollers in The UK

If it has the internal finisher, beware staple jams. They dump right down onto the mag roller, and tear up the drum. On my machines with the internal finisher I would get a large refrigerator magnet and position it under the stapler. Any staple jams would stick to the magnet, and not reach the mag roller or drum. During your drum change you can clean off the pile of bent staples. =^..^=
