    iR C1028iF forced download

I have a machine that is hanging on start up. Is there a way to force it into download mode?
I have tried holding down 2+8 on startup to no avail.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

You will have to do it in service mode. Main menu 2 then 8 and main menu again. Then you have to enter the password that is the same ira 7654321, once in service mode you should be able to get to the download mode.
    Hope this will help

The problem is that the copier does not boot to a point where one can enter service mode. The Canon logo appears and the progress bar gets to a third and there it sits. I have been told there is a button or button combination that you can hold down to get into safe mode (like holding 2 + 8 while booting an iRC2380), but I'm buggered if I can find it. I've searched the Service Manual and the bulletins on SIMS.

Have you tried starting it up with the front door open so the machine doesn't go through its warm up rotation?
When you think you have made a procedure idiot proof your company employs a better idiot.

Yup. No go. It's either a firmware problem or memory or mainboard. But here in South Africa boards are not cheap so I have to do some due diligence before throwing money around.

-------!!!!!!!! to get the Download Mode !!!!!!!

There are two methods of getting the device into Download Mode.

    Method One:

Press down and hold the number 2 button on the operation panel, then turn on the Main Power switch of the device, while holding down the number 2 button.

Keep the number 2 button pressed down until the device boots up, and the following display appears:

    Network Download Available

    IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

The IP Address line, will display the current IP Address configured on the device.

    Method Two:

    Press MAIN MENU button
    Press the number 2 button
    Press the number 8 button
    Press MAIN MENU button
    Select COPIER
    Press OK button
    Select FUNCTION
    Press OK button
    Select SYSTEM
    Press OK button
    Select DOWNLOAD MODE
    Press OK button

    note:
The device will go into a booting sequence, and after a few moments the device will display the following:

    Network Download Available

    IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

The IP Address line, will display the current IP Address configured on the device. That will be the IP Address that is to be used to flash the device from the computer.

Thanks for all the advice guys. As I said, we can't get to service mode as the boot process doesn't start. I suspect the mainboard is kaput. We are going to try swapping out boards with a working machine. I'll post the results.
