Estimated average values in the field, based on data from supplier.
Data is subject to change depending upon many factors including, without limitation, monthly copy volume, environment, type of image printed and customer handling of the equipment.

    imageRUNNER 5070
Estimated Toner Yield: 45,000 Images (at 6% Letter Coverage)
    Canon OEM>GPR-17 Black Toner 0279B003AA--(Dry Volume: 2,000 g)

    imageRUNNER 5020/6020
Estimated Toner Yield:: 33,000 Images (at 6% Letter Coverage)
    Canon OEM>GPR-4 Black Toner 4234A003AA--(Dry Volume: 1,650g)

Even if box has Canon OEM > no guarantee it is ( counterfeit products & packaging are worldwide )

    regarding that data .. 1000 g dry volume of toner >> 5070 = 22,500 images, and 6020 = 20,000 images.

5% fill is the equivalent to one paragraph double spaced.

I tell customers to expect have the yield or more if graphics are in document.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

For the purpose of cartridge yield measure, almost all printer manufacturers base their Black ink/toner cartridge yields on 5% coverage.
This means only 5% of the whole page is covered with ink or toner. 5% coverage implies basic type with no bold characters, no graphics and no pictures.

CMYK toners for color laser printers and copiers base their cartridges yields on 20% to 35% coverage (5% to 7% per color). In reality, if a document had a 100% fill, there would be 400% coverage. Tri-color inkjet/toner cartridges base their page yield on 15% coverage (5% per color).

    5% coverage EXAMPLE BELOW

    30% coverage EXAMPLE

    ================================================== ======================
A simple numeric table, with 9 columns, 45 rows and 405 cells (the amount that fits on a MSWord A4 page) uses 5.55% of the page without borders, however a similar table (with only 44 rows, and 396 cells – the most with borders that fit on one sheet) with borders uses up nearly double the amount of ink, at 10.89%.

APFill Ink Coverage Calculator is a unique tool for print shops and home users. Now you can optimize pages you print to spend less ink, toner and money. Ink and toner usage is usually described by printer manufacturers as so many pages of A4 using 5% coverage. APFill Ink Coverage Calculator helps you calculate ink and toner coverage on the page (total ink density or total area coverage) before printing.
When you use APFill Ink Coverage you can estimate your cost more accurately. APFill will help you to estimate price based on paper density, paper format and original color density, so you can optimize pages you print and spend less ink, toner and money.

    Key features:

    • Measure the color coverage of every page or average document coverage of a PostScript or PDF file (*.ps, *.pdf) with CMYK separation (up to 8 color spots). To use this feature, you will also need to install GPL Ghostscript 9.10 for Win32 or Win64.
    • Measure the color coverage for raster formats (TIFF including multipage, JPG, BMP).
    • Measure the color coverage of the highlighted screen area.
