I am trying to remove the drum unit assy but it will not slide out. The manual says 2 screws and 5 connectors and it should come out. Does the developer assy have to come out even though the manual does not mention it? Thanks for any ideas. This is my first time working on this canon and i do not want to damage that expensive drum.

Yes, the dev assembly should be removed, it probably has a build up of toner on the outside of the cover facing the drum that should be cleaned anyway.

I applaud your wisdom on this point. It's something like the Hippocratic Oath for technicians: "Do no additional damage ..."
... and yes, it's the developing unit that's holding you up. It comes out through the right side door, behind a metal panel held with a single screw, and slots into the rear frame. =^..^=

1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

No my downloaded pdf manual does not mention step 4 but thanks for your sarcasm.

Did you remove the lock screw and key from the end of the drum shaft? The shaft remains in the machine and the process unit slides out, along with the rails that it sits on. Open the transport drawer and put a sheet of 17 inch paper over the transfer/sep corona assembly to keep toner out of it and help protect the drum from getting scuffed as you slide the process unit out. I don't always remove dev unit...just remove the side cover,do not unplug it,just pull it back about inch so that dev spacers are nowhere near drum and slide out process unit.
