IR 9070 DRUM HEATER

i HAVE TO A QUESTION FOR THE SEASONED TECHS< WILL A DRUM HEATER DAMAGE THE DRUM AND NOT LEAVE EVIDENCE ON THE PLASTIC THE HEATER IS COATED IN. MY THOUGHTS ARE NO, BUT I AM SEEKING WISDOM FROM TECHS WITH YEARS EXPERIENCE,,THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

I have never seen that happen, with any model.
On a couple models like 6800, they have developed a short and tripped the breaker.

What damage do you have?

i WAS TOLD AFTER RETURNING DRUM THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE IT BUT I SHOULD LOOK AT THE HEATER BECAUSE THEY SAW DISCOLORATION BECAUSE OF HEATER..HEATER LOOKS BRAND NEW TO ME..I INSPECTED THE DRUM DON'T REMEMBER ANY ABNORMAL MARKS INSIDE OF IT.JUST THOUGHT I WOULD GET ANOTHER OPINION ..THANKS FOR THE REPLY..

The DRUM HAD STARTED MAKING SPECS ON COPIES..i could see micro pits in it causing .specs on the copies...

Way back in the day, some drum heaters would overheat, We would know by touching the drum. These days they have thermoswitches. It would not hurt to feel the drum temp, and replace the heater.
WRT the pits, old/dirty transfer/sep corona assembly will arc to the drum. Some say it is a primary corona issue.
I usually replace those assemblies at the recommended time. It is cheaper than replacing a drum.

I have seen a tech say that they have left the per transfer corona out as it causes issues..and it wont hurt anything .your opinion ..or anybody with experience on this...thanks for your time..

What is the normal numbers to replace main corona....and pre-transfer--and transfer ..or is there and ohms. reading of good or replace..thanks again..

We used to leave pre- transfer out of NP7550, NP6550, sometimes,but I have not heard of anyone doing that on Imagerunners.
I suppose it would work also.

One million is the recommended lifespan of the corona assemblies.
I do not stretch Trans/Sep beyond 1.5
Occasionally I stretch the others.
