    Post Modify iR 2380 to iR 3580 - info

    Hello everyone,

    I just wonder, did any of ye come accross with the following matter already:

    we deal with end-of-lease machines and I just learnt that some of our customers who buy iR2380 they modify it to iR3580. Not only for consumables, but the speed them up also.
    This doesn't bother us but I only would like to know and understand the procedure.
    What I think is that they re-map the firmware/software but they don't change the hardware.

    Does anyone have any experience with this please?

    Certainly Actually some of our customers does it, and also we know a Canon branch does it in Europe. So some way it can be done for sure. Unfortunatelly I can't ask them straight . That's the reason for this post.

    SPEED

    EXAMPLE > this series has same FIRMWARE
    CiR C3480(i)/C3380(i)/
    C3080(i)/C2880(i)/C2550(i)
    ==============================================
    as in this Series , it's the same Firmware
    CiR C5185/5180(i)/C4580(i)/C4080(i)

    they are modifying the DCON files= the.prg file & .ird file

    Some PRG files also contain text files with source code.

    Re: Modify iR 2380 to iR 3580 - info

    Well, I got an answer but I feel this a bit narrow.

    It was told, that the following procedure stands for both 3 relations: iR2880 -> iR3380, iR2380 -> iR3580, iR3080 -> iR3580.

    So it was told that the only thing you have to do is to copy the content of the LC46 chip of the Serial Board and the 24C64 chip of the Counter Board to the slower machine AND have an RA board fitted. Plus you have to change back the Serial Number in the chip after copying.
    They swear it works.

    Would this be all only?!

    ================================================== ===================
    Bottom Line

    dont' know where u live , but it's against the law to manipulate the Serial Board ( as in going to Jail )
    Canon has copyright protected control on all Serial Boards in all of their products.

    Serial Number PCB is a matched board with the Counter Memory PCB and cannot be swapped
    with any other equipment. Doing so will generate an E354 or E355 code.

    The Counter Memory PCB is electronically stamped with the serial number from the Serial Number PCB.

    -Counter Memory PCB is no longer a restricted part.

    -Serial Number PCB's will continue to be restricted. The Serial Number PCB can only be obtained by
    contacting the Canon Technical Support Hotline.

    Counter Memory, Serial Number and Main Controller PCBs work as a set.

    ================================================== ================================================== ====
    In Color Products it's the ECO ID PCB that continues to be restricted.

    Counter Memory PCB, ECO ID PCB and SRAM PCB retain information pertinent to the specific engine they are
    installed in. Ensure that you never swap any of these circuit boards with another engine.

    Counter Memory PCB, ECO ID PCB and SRAM PCB communicate information with the Main Controller.

    Counter Memory PCB is a matched board with the ECO ID PCB and cannot be swapped with one from any other engine.

    teckat: as I wrote it above I have no intention to do this. As I said it is more for my curiosity. (Please read it above.)
