Exclamation Canon IPF8100 Help needed with an error code PLEASE

    Hello.

I have had an error code on the above printer 03130031-2F17 which i believe is an error with the suction fan, I have purchased a new replacement that has come direct from Canon, i have installed this and i am still getting the same error, i have removed the new fan and looked inside when trying to start the printer and the fan doesn't even spin before the error comes up.
I have looked in the service manual and it shows that on the main control board the it is the J2701 connection that provides power and sends and recieves the control signal, on this connection it is pin B1 +26V and A1 = GND.
can anyone let me know if there is anything that I can do to get this fan working. also is there anyone that knows if the main control board is at fault and if it can be repaired.

    Thanks for your time.

Many fans have 12 and 24 volt power supplied and just two wires leading to them.
The platen suction fan on the iPF8000 has 3 leads...one ground, one power and the third that makes it unique to other fans is the lock signal. When the fan is spinning at a specified speed a signal is generated back on the third line to tell the machine the fan is turning and also turning at the correct speed. Failure to transmit the lock signal will result in 2F17 error.

Check the voltage on main board connector 2701B pin number 1 > there should be 26 vdc present.

The fan error can be caused by:
    1. The fan
    2. Failure to spin due to clogging
3.Power supplied to the fan is not present
    4.Loose or broken connectors
    5.Bad Main controller

if Fan was CLOGGED UP when u removed it > it may have taken out Main Board

Code is an indication that the Platen Fan is either clogged and not rotating or the Main Board Dimm Assembly signals to the Fan are not outputting to it.

In most cases, since the Fan was clean/replaced and the filter to it was also replaced with the Maintenance Kit, the problem was determined to be the Main Board Dimm Assembly which was defective and had to be replaced.

    IPF8000 / Part Number: QM3-0957-000
    IPF8100/ Part Number: QM3-3131-000
    IPF9000/ Part Number: QM3-0985-000
    IPF9100/ Part Number: QM3-3099-000

or have the Board Tested /Repaired

    J2701
    Pin/
    B1 /VM_26V -- OUT Power supply (+26V)
B2 /KYUINFAN_ALARM_IN -- IN Suction fan alarm signal
B3 /KYUINFAN_PWM_ON -- OUT Suction fan duty control signal
    B4 /GND - GND

if u look on page 60, u will see that under
    ASIC(IC1,IC2)
    Power ON/OFF control function
This function controls turning on/off of the
drive power (32V and 5.1V) supplied from the power supply PCB.

    PWM control function
This function controls driving of the
suction fan and mist fan as well as the temperature of the printhead.

    Platen Fan Lock Error
occurs when excessive ink builds up on the fan and associated parts and prevents the fan from turning and removing ink from the Platen area. This problem will happen more often when the printer is used for Borderless Printing.
During Borderless Printing, the ink at the edges is sucked down the Platen channels to reduce the effect of ink on the back side of the prints. Periodic cleaning of the ink build-up on the platen and other areas, will help to reduce this error condition.

Thank you for your advice and such a good reply.

I will have the board tested today and let you know what voltages are available.

You mentioned a filter and a maintenance Kit, can you advise where the filter is as i haven't changed this i only got the fan from Canon.

If it is the board, can you recommend anyone for having it tested / repaired?

    Thanks again.

    REPLACEMENT KITS

Note: A Replacement Kit may contain more than one replacement items (Carriage Unit, Flex Cable, Oil Pad, etc)

Note: Each Replacement Kit has one or more counters (A1, B1, D1, etc.) that must be cleared (reset) after the part is replaced.

If there is no Replacement Kit part# (see Attached Tech Pub ), replace each part# listed for the Counter, listed in Chap.5 of the Service Manual.

    CLEARING THE COUNTER

WARNING: Initializing a counter without replacing the worn part, is an improper service operation and will lead to further extensive extended printer failure. Counters must be initialized after the replacement part is installed. There is no exception to this rule.

Note: Always refer to the Service Manual / Chapter 7 / Service Mode Operation / Initialize / Parts Counter, to initialize the counter for the item replaced.

Nationwide offers no board repair on most IPF printers....just HDDs. A few power supplies and controllers

Hi. Looking at the PDF that you sent (thanks) it looks like the error code could be a result of the waste ink absorbers, do you know if there is a sensor that could result in this error code if they need replacing, I'm trying everything i can before having to go down the board replacement / repair route.

the fan plugs into the main board. so if the fan doesnt spin then replace the main board.

usually when you replace the suction fan. you should replace the fan duct where the fan attaches to as well
