Scan To Gmail (3rd party Apps)

Scan to gmail appears to be a common problem for various different manufactures MFD's.
There is a setting in google myaccounts that prevents "less secured" 3rd party application from sending to Gmail servers.

To allow 3rd party applications and MFD's to send to gmail you may need to turn on "Allow less secure apps : On"
Login to your normal google account an enable the above software switch, see the attached image.

If your are receiving a similar response from your email application you may have disabled some of your 3rd party google apps.

The above error condtion was received from an email program when "Allow less secure apps :=Off", even though the email account was set with outgoing smtp(Port 465), incoming TLS (port 993) and SSL(Port 995) with full certificate or encrypted password authentication active.
Google accounts would not accept or recognise the 3rd party application even with full secure authorisation.

    Concluding:
Login to your clients/customers gmail account and check that they have not disabled or set "Allow less secure Apps : =Off". You should then be able to scan-to-gmail or email 3rd party to the gmail servers.

Thanks for the info. Does this work for older machines that don't support SSL.

The above does not require SSL. Can only send to other GMAIL accounts, so you can .......
Set up Gmail account for customer. EXAMPLE Cust123@gmail.com
Set up filter to forward, anything with 1 in subject to ed@yourcustomer.com, anything with 2 in subject to fred@mycustomer.com, so on and so on

Show customer how to add Subject.....

As shown Google blocks all 3rd party apps if myaccount "Allow less secure apps :" is set to OFF. As far as I'm aware it has nothing to do with "secure apps" at all, Google just blocks all 3rd party apps regardless of being secure or not.

If the "Allow less secure apps" soft switch is OFF , then most 3rd party apps will not communicate with Google servers.

I'll try to share more info when I get around to testing some other MFD's.

See "Mansart" post for older MFD scan-to-gmail communication settings.
