Scan to folder ( CMB & FTP FileZilla ) , Ip adress vs Host name

Hello .It happens quite often. If I fill in the address book IP address of PC , the scanner works. And if I fill in the address book Host name of PC, the scanner does not work. DNS server and Workgroup are filled correctly. Why it happened ? Thank you .

DNS Server entry has to be internal.
Your router or internal server.

for example: 192.168.1.1

any entry of provider or ggooggllee
will not work.

peter42, thanks for answer ! I have a small network ( 2 PC) for example , PC address - 10.0.0.3, router IP address - 10.0.0.138, DNS server - 10.0.0.138 . Should be something else ?

If you are using the router as the primary DNS, each computer must be set to "Register this connection's addresses in DNS". For a windows PC it is a check box found at the bottom of Network Connections - Adapter Ethernet Properties - Internet Protocol Version 4 General Tab - Advanced Button - DNS Tab and that NetBIOS is not disable on the WINS tab. There also firewall settings that can affect network file sharing.

A few of months ago Microsoft put out an update to Server 2012R2, Server 2016 and possible other server versions that can block file sharing to and from a different sub-net unless both devices are recognized as part of the local domain. It can also block SMB scanning to the server using IP address.

Slimslob's comments are dead on! I would like to add that if the customer is using a router provided by the ISP such as a cable company, they do not allow Netbios naming and a computer name in the SMB setup will not work. If they are using a router from the ISP we have had some success, depending on the ISP, unchecking use the DNS server from DHCP on the machines webpage and leaving the DNS server entries blank. This is also dependent on how network discovery is setup on the Windows computers. If network discovery is disabled in Windows even this will not work as the computer is prohibited from responding to a network name broadcast.
