Hi all,
Does anyone know if this still exists, I used to know a number that you could fax to & you'd get an automated reply, perfect for testing a fax issue other that simply check on hook etc

Use it all the time. Sometimes it can take a few minutes.
Both good! Thanks! =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

You can always sign for an online fax service such as Efax. You get a fax number. Faxes can be sent to that number and you will receive them as an email attachment. A number of senior NCOs, myself included, in the reserve unit I was deployed with in 2005 had Efax accounts. If soldiers need documents from their home units, the units could fax them to one if us. Much faster than the 10 days snail mail took. When I got back from deployment I kept my account and used it for fax testing.

Brother has an automated fax number for sending and automated receive. 1-877-268-9575.
I tried the cellphone thing. There must be more setup or additional services required. I did not get a message, an email or an attachment of any sort on my cell. It just failed. Similarly a JPG photo image texted to the fax number failed also, not that I thought it would work. =^..^=

Similar here in OZ, we have a Telco standard FOLDS (Fax On Line Diagnostics) test.
Send a fax to the FOLDs number and receive a detailed diagnostics line test back as a fax print out.
You can then set all the MFD fax settings to the required line attenuation etc.

I've been using this one on installs for years. Lately it's become hit or miss on getting the return fax, but the customers still receive their incoming faxes.
I've been thinking of finding another test #, but always forget by the time I get home. Now I have a couple of more options to try.
