Ricoh MP301 drops from network, cannot scan to folder

I have an MP301 connected to a windows 7 pro PC. Print and scan to folder. All is well for maybe a week and then the unit cannot find the folder, printing still works fine. Once the PC is rebooted it connects and all is well again unit later. I have connected with the computer name, not IP address. All the firmware is updated. I believe it is a computer issue but am not sure where to look. Can someone enlighten me?
    Thanks

First thing I would look at is the actual IP address of the copier. If the computers on the network are pulling a 192.168.X.25 address, and the copier is at .30, it's likely something else is trying to grab that address from the router's DHCP pool. (Smarphones and Tablets are notorious culprits)

What I usually do if the computer's IP is .30 or something like that, I set the copier up with a static IP of .175, just to get it out of the normal range of router IP addresses. That's also going to depend on how many computers/tablets/phones are using that network. Whatever address you choose though, make sure to "PING" it first, just to make sure nothing else is using that address.

Other than that, you could also try going into the computer's print driver settings (Printer Properties), on the "Ports" tab, click the "Configure Port" button for the IP address and UN-Check "SNMP status". Sometimes that will mess with connectivity as well.

    Good luck...

MAke sure the 301 has the correct DNS for the network as well.

Yeah... not too shabby for a $150 Jay Turser knock-off. It makes noises that resemble music, so it'll do.

Since you are having trouble scanning and not printing, SNMP is not the problem. If your computer is part of a domain, make sure that the Domain name is set correctly. Even the slightest error will result in a name resolution error. If it is not part of a domain, the work group must be correct and the first DNS must be a local device, usually the router set to include local host names.

Since the computer is Windows 7, check the name of the computer. If it is longer than 8 characters in length, change it. Many windows 7 and Windows XP computers were configured with names that consisted of a string of letters followed by a serial number. Many Net-bios functions would use only the first 8 characters so it was possible to get name conflicts when trying to connect for file sharing.

Scan to folder using "Ethernet" or "USB" cable ?

    USB :
If the problem might be the Windows adapter setting : "Allow windows to turn off this device to save power".

    Ethernet:
    Same as SlimSlob ...

    add

    Conflicting IP address ??

USB doesn't support scan to folder, does it?

I'm just assuming this is going thru a network & not via cross-over cable. On small (single router, no domain) networks I usually enter the DNS & router into the WINS settings on the copier. You might try hard setting the network speed instead of using Auto Select.

I'm not familiar with the 301, but I always set the newer boxes to 'Enable Gigbyte' under the interface settings. The boxes that have this setting use 'Disable' as the default. This usually effects printing, but it might work in the other direction as well.

Ask Net Admin to plug it to a different port or a different switch.
