Does scanning to folder works on router no.

Hi,

I would like to know if a scan to folder works on a photocopy machine if the client computer is connected at the 2nd router in an organization?

Because there is the main router and it's connected to a unmanaged switch. Then from the unmanaged switch is connected to a 2nd wireless router.

I'm not sure how it was done, but one of our clients had a mapped network shared drive with one network, to another network with office next door.


SMB failed, but FTP worked fine. I scanned to that folder, and the office next door had access through the computer.

I'm sure there is a better way, and again, not sure how they did it.

I have in the past had computers, including my laptop, in my office refuse to share their drives over a WIFI connection using a USB WiFi device. If you have to use WiFi to get connection where you cannot run CAT5 to, use a N300/N600 wireless bridge router at the remote end and a departmental switch if there are multiple devices.

Yes FTP scan-to-folder works on a modem/router.

General Modem/Router WiFi has two separate networks on the same modem/router if setup for maximum security.
1. The modem/router WiFi can be setup for "guest login" using the WAN, which does not allow access to the LAN (more secure).
2. The modem/router WiFi can allow user login direct onto the WAN and allows access to the all shares on the LAN (less secure).

WiFi Airprint and other printer configurations will not work through the modem/router if using the separate "guest login" networks.
Some Airprint software has its own private network which is separate from the normal WAN or LAN and therefore cannot see shares on other networks.
You will need to setup the WiFi with direct user login to the normal WAN ,or LAN network if you wish to see all shares on the LAN.
The above also depends on some other advanced factors like VPN, Firewall settings,Port Forwarding, DMZ etc...
