windows live mail, i am trying to transfer the app from old HDD to SSD

may be a little off topic, but just wondering if anyone has an answer.

i am trying to move the windows live mail program from one hard drive to another. i already have the contacts, so it is not that, but i want to continue to use the windows live mail. i upgraded an overflowing 500 gb HDD to a 1 TB SSD on a Dell OptiPlex. i loaded the windows start up disks and the applications and drivers disk, but the windows live mail isn't there.

I have also searched the old HDD and other than finding that file name, I don't see anything to copy. Microsoft web site says that the program was unsupported since 2012. I have looked into the other newer recommended email apps, like eM client but I have an old email I still also use that is the old Verizon.net, which went to AOL, and is a pop and imap program, and I tried many times to use the setup to load the settings and it wont work.

if anyone can suggest a possible way to locate and transfer the program I would be greatly appreciated.

    thank you very much, Jim

I could be wrong but I believe that Windows Live Mail was part of the OS. It may or may not compatible with Windows 10. According to ccm.net "As of January 10, 2017, Windows Essentials 2012 — including Windows Live Mail — is no longer supported on Windows 10. There is no updated version available for download."

You can download it from cnet.com or ccm.net. Windows automatic updates may delete it.

Hi slimslob. i forgot to mention, the operating system is windows 7 pro 64 bit. i reloaded the same operating system from the back up CD's. and even before any windows updates, the windows live mail link wasn't there as before.

i will try the cnet site and see if i can get it there as you suggested.

thank you very much for the help, Jim

Live mail was an add-on application. It's no longer supported as you've already learned.

You're better served moving to something like Thunderbird that at least has support.

Also: Windows 7 itself goes end of life in less than a year and is missing a lot of improvements in SSD wear leveling that modern operating systems offer. Even after you find a new email client, it won't be long before you'll need a new OS as well.

ok rthonpm, advice well taken. i suspected that was the inevitable. and now that i use both 7 and 10, it wont be a big deal. and i do believe email in included with 10, at least it was included when i picked up a mini tower with it.

    have a nice evening, Jim

Mozilla Thunderbird for an email client, can easily backup and transfer to PC later down the line if needed using MozBackup. Been on the go for years.

Both Windows Mail and Thunderbird are pretty good as an email client for personal email accounts.

I have used Thunderbird ever since it first cam out. Prior I used Mozilla/Netscape suite. Forerunner to Thunderbird, Firefox and an HTLM editor all in one package.
