EFI removal utility

I have a OS X user trying to use command workstation with a new install of a Ricoh Pro c500 replacing a canon CLC4000. When they try edit the printing properties of a file imported into command workstation a error dialog pops up and disappears before it can be read.

I had this same scenario a while ago and found a utility from EFI that would remove the leftovers from no longer used printers. I used it to remove the canon ppd's and it solved the problem.

Well now I can't find it. I lost the copy I downloaded I guess and can not find it on the internet again. It was called something like EFI removal tool or something like that I believe.

Anyone know what i'm talking about ?

Is the tool for Mac or Windows?

I've seen the Windows version, but never one for Mac.

Did you try going to the download page on the RIP, and selecting Mac utilities?

Try that, download the file to your Mac, and run it.

If it works the same way it does in Windows, it should give you the option of what you want to install.

Worth a shot!

Here some things you can try..

When this occurs, make sure that within the Fiery Setup, the Security Setup is enabled Under the Network Setup section. Make sure that '515(LPD/Fiery Tools)' and 'EFI Ports' are set to Accept as shown below:
Security Setup
IP Port Setup: Yes
25(SMTP): Accept
161-162(SNMP): Accept
515(LPD/Fiery Tools): Accept
EFI Ports: Accept
Canon Ports: Accept

Also note that only jobs sent using the PostScript driver can have their properties changed within Command WorkStation. Jobs sent using a PCL driver will not have this feature available.

2. Check the following:

- Make sure you are printing using the EFI PS driver on PC, the EFI PPD for Mac OS X on Mac OS X, or are downloading PDF or EPS files. Only PS, PDF and EPS jobs/files can be managed in Command Workstation. You can only change the number of copies for print jobs sent via the PCL driver or UFRII driver using Command WorkStation.

- Verify that CWS Mac Edition is installed in a supported Mac environment (platform, OS version, etc). Please view the documentation for your specific version of CWS Mac Edition.
Perform the following steps:

1. Run the Software Update program to install the latest updates for the Mac.
2. Open a web browser and go to Java.com. Download the latest java update.
3. Install the java update.
4. Remove the Fiery folder and the Framework files. The framework files are located at \library\frameworks\. All files that start with 'h' should be deleted.
5. Empty the trash and restart the Mac.
6. Reinstall CWS Mac Edition.

Note that the user can alter the same jobs' properties from CWS on a PC with no problems

* This issue has been seen with CWS Mac Edition, not with CWS LE.

Ok I found it.

http://www.qxrxic.com/dsweb/Get/Vers...verRemover.zip

This program will delete ppd's, harmony, and cups. I think deleting harmony is what fixed my problem but I got rid of everything associated with the old Canon's. I beleive I could have manually removed the files but I don't know where they all are and this seems safer.

KenB told me about this program (thanks Ken) Print Center Repair 3.x information page . It sounds like it does some of the same things I didn't try it though.

Anyway i'm not going to delete this again
