linux drivers

Help needed for linux drivers and printing in general.

I have a asus Eee with linux as the OS. I don't know much about linux, ok i know nothing

I need to do a few things to help me in the field.

1. ping the m/c to check the connectivity.

2. install drivers i.e kyocera, ricoh possibly sharp and canon

3. print test charts from my sd card to test the m/c i.e. to use just the print engine only.

Now i have limited IT skills but all of the above are basic things i can do myself on a windows laptop. Now before someone says just use windows OS, its a works laptop so i need to know how to use it to my advantage.

I downloaded the drivers from kyocera website but i didn't understand it to be honest.

thanks

you are goining to incount quite a few things, the most importante is your machines "MFPs" will need postscript cards installed in order to print, otherwise you´ll get a load of junk pages printed out.
I can try to help you out, whats the operating system, fedora 9 or 10, redhat or suse?

Oops, maybe this could be of some help:

ricoh aficio mp c3500

Hi,
if your Customer has the Optional Postscript Module, then they can use the Mac OSX Postcsript driver from the [ricoh-usa.com] website.

It is entirely likely that Mac OSX already has a driver pre-loaded.

If Postscript is NOT installed on the Aficio 1035, the PXLmono PPDs for PCL6 printing, are available here on the openprinting website.

banginbishop, maybe you figured it out already but to see what operating system you got go to menu bar on the top click system then on about this computer there youll find this:

localhost.localdomian

Fedora
release 10 (cambridge)
Kernel Linux 2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.i686
GNOME 2.24.3
Hardware:
Memory: 4 Gb
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 X:XXXMHz

To add a printer go to System\administration\printing\ then you will be prompt with a password for root on localhost.
The user name by default is root
then you will be in the printer server configuration select the tab. new, it will look for new printer if not found another window will pop up:
Lpt
Serial port #1
Serial port #2
Internet printing protocol
Lpd/Lpr
Windows printer via samba
other

EX: Device url: smb://mycomputer/printer

As I said no my first post it is not going to be that easy, but there must be a first time, so give it a shot, if you need my help a cheap easyjet ticket will do the trick, hehehe

Windows 7, looks and performes great, installed it on a 1.5 MHz with 1Gb ram and it´s not running that bad, It´s like the Millenium (vista) to Windows 98 Second Edition ( 7 ).
Locks like most of the S**t has been resolved.
Very good impression at first look.

I just set up a generic printer and use the generic PS or PCL drivers. Works EVERYTIME. And doesn't have to be model specific.
