SMB Scanning to Windows 8.1 or Server 2012

Just a helpful post more than a question.

For those that are still experiencing issues with scanning to Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 via SMB, Microsoft released a patch which allows machines to communicate with a depreciated version of Server Message Block (SMB) v1. This update has been available since November last year, but as we all know, servers don't always get updated correctly.

Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: November 2013

Hopefully this should help a few people who are still trying to chase down SMB v3 compatibility through Firmware Upgrades.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Good to know, a lot of older mfp's are never going to get firmware upgrades. This will help, thanks.

Thanks Owl, I hardly ever touch servers, at least I can pass the message, before I get shot down as messenger.
    Appreciated

without wishing to mention the obvious, also worth checking the port that the device is set to use. Some devices still default to 139 and if Netbios is blocked or not supported then the device will fail to connect. Try changing to the "direct host SMB" port of 445
