    Savin Scan to Email error

    Scanning from a C4540 to e-mail (Exchange Server 2007) I keep getting

    SMTPC: connection closed. (202) ERR:
    SMTPC: connection closed. (801) ERR:

Tried using authentication and tried not using it, same error. Setup a IP relay on the server, still no dice.

I dont have an asnswer but funny thing is when I Google d the error, the first selection is a Ricoh software guide for a printer. But I couldn't find the error in there.

Basically the machine is telling you that it cannot connect with the SMTP server and has closed the connection.

For the purposes of reference, this is what a good connection and scan will look like, with no authentication...

A failed connection would be different. You would actually see at what point the connection fails. Parlett, you would probably see three attempts by the MFP to connect with the SMTP server, with no response after each, then a reset packet is sent that closes the connection.

You said that you are connecting to an exchange server. Does the customer have their own internet connection, such as through a T1 line, or are they going through someone like Comcast or AT&T? If they are the later, then that is your problem. Nether Comcast nor AT&T will allow your MFP to connect directly to an Exchange server (or any other mail server for that matter). You have to use a Comcast or AT&T e-mail as the Key Operator, then you will be able to connect with the Exchange server. You must also use the ISP's SMTP server address.

I have a packet capture from a recent call in which I had this very issue!

Notice that packets 43 and 123 are in RED and also notice the [RST] in the info section. The fact these are in red means that you need to pay attention to these packets and RST means that it's a Reset packet, which like I described before is a packet that closes off the connection between the two devices.

Also notice how cryptic all this is. In the above failed connection, there is nothing there that tells you that it was AT&T that was blocking the connection. It has just come second nature for me, when I see the above pattern and I know all the info is correct, that the customer must have an ISP and I will need this info to move forward.

Man! I really hope this helps you out.

Not able to get to the customers site at the moment but I'll do some packet capturing when I get there. Got the system admin on the phone and he said he has Exchange Server 2000 still running, he plugged that in the SMTP and blam, works like a champ.Like all things this will get resolved eventually, thanks for the info.

    Smile Samsung scx-4521

The machine is displaying the "FSU" message.
Does anybody have an ideia of what is it?
I still don't have the service manual.
